Welcome to BELVEDEREN AMPHITHEATRE I was surprised to learn Australia was proclaimed the commonwealth of Australia 1 January 1901 at the belvedere amphitheatre centennial Parklands! As stated on the sandstone block ! How day's many different events are happening here, the best known being the moonlight cinema Below you lies the birthplace of modern Australian- the site together of our nation in 1901 Australia becomes a nation on 1 January 1901 when the six colonies federate, and the Commonwealth of Australia is proclaimed in Centennial Park, Sydney. Lord Hopetoun is appointed as Australia’s first Governor-General. Edmund Barton (Protectionist, Member for Hunter, NSW, 1901‒03) is sworn in as Australia’s first Prime Minister.

Moonlight Cinema at the Belvedere Ampitheatre in Centennial Park is a great family night out. You can bring your own food and drinks including alcohol or you can buy it there. Bring your own picnic rug or chair or hire a beanbag lounge on the night or pre purchase the Connoisseur bean lounge package or go all out and choose Gold Grass with waiters to serve you. You can even bring your dog. The screen size and sound quality is excellent with parking nearby or easy access from the Paddington gates. Highly recommended.

What a lovely evening! Cinema under the stars. Very well organised, food & drinks available or, as we did, bring your own picnic. Rent some bean bags for a very laid back view! Good quality picture, sound could be louder & centralised on the screen but well done to all. A highlight of our visit this year and actually, I think we preferred it's more relaxed approach to the otherwise amazing cinema on the harbour.

Home of the annual Moonlight Cinema, Sydney, this is a glorious location at twighlight/early evening. The heat of the day passes like the flocks of fruit bats that cruise overhead. Parking is clearly marked and the venue is increasingly well-appointed and staffed for this event. Good toilet facilities. Some food and drink (incl. alcohol) available onsite or via online pre-booking, as are the "bean loungers" (bean bag beds) for reclining and enjoying a movie on the big screen. But you're also welcome to BYO everything. Gates open 90 mins before showtime so there's time to get settled, have a picnic, and visit the loo before the movie. Wear long sleeves and bring a rug against the breeze if you don't like drafts. Otherwise, I hope this Summer Holiday institution continues. We'll be back....
