Mahon Pool — Attraction in Sydney

Mahon Pool was built in the 1930s as an unemployment relief project, making it almost a hundred years old. It was first listed with the National Trust in 1994, stating it had “high aesthetic value due to its siting and the manner by which the pool tends to ‘melt’ into the rock platform”.

We agree, hence our second visit this morning after a four-year absence. It has great change facilities (good job Randwick City Council) plus outdoor showers too, and free four-hour parking at the top of the hill that overlooks it.

Lovely natural rock pool. Bit hard to get in (slippery). There are railings. Advise where open shoes/thongs/flip flops to enter, then put on side rocks. This used to be pristine clean since constantly washed by sea crashing over. Not this time. For some reason there was flotsam floating on top of the water. To avoid this swim 3-4 days after any rain, and swim at far end of the pool, nearest to the sea end. Still a gorgeous location with rocks to sit on, and a huge grass area above. Has full changing rooms with showers and toilets. There is also a reasonable café across the road. This is an incredible pool to chill off in the sweltering summer climate. Go for a pleasant stroll from Coogee to Mahon Pool and you will be happy to bounce directly in. A family-accommodating spot has the standard conveniences and an exquisite bistro over the street. So what are you hanging tight for proceed to appreciate?
