Myself and 2 friends went there today (Saturday). We ordered our coffees and went and sat at an outdoor table. When I put my new phone and hand on the table there was melted chocolate on the table and it got all over my palm and phone case. Obviously the table had not been wmcleaned for who knows how many customers . This is not right at any time and especially during Covid. I went in and told them and they didn't seem interested. I mentioned that the tables had not been cleaned and the lady that was working there treated me with disdain. The youngish guy said I could go behind the counter to use the tap to wash of the chocolate but the nasty lady wouldn't let me and pointed to the hand sanitizer. Eventually the guy got me some serviettes. We were told that we would be called when our coffees were ready. 15 minutes later I noticed that other people that came after us had theirs. So I went in to see what was happening and there were our coffees sitting outside the cafe lukewarm. Nobody had called us. It was obvious revenge for mentioning the dirty tables. My Chai latte was way below average. In times if Covid they should feel blessed to be open and to have work and treat their customers accordingly. They were also not following social distancing, 4 customers in the small bakery at one time. It wouldn't surprise me if council fined them and closed them down. I won't don them in myself but someone might. I ordered a small Chai latte and they said we only make large then gave my friend a small one, I'm sure we paid for 4 large. We should have been warned by the name...
Read moreNot sure what all the hype is about. Went to maroubra location on Friday. Got a sausage roll for myself and a pie for my husband. I tried a bit of the pie, not much to say about it, but the sausage roll, well that was probably the worst sausage roll I've had. The meat inside was so dry I could barely chew it, it was flavourless, took 1 bite, threw the rest of it out. I decided to give it another try and get something else. So I got a cheese stick an apple turn over and a couple of pain au chocolat. So I was disappointed again. I took a bite of the cheese stick, thinking it would be crispy, but instead it was soft and stodgy. My husband's opinion of the apple turn over was that it tasted like something you buy from the supermarket and heat in the oven. The pain au chocolat were almost bread like in texture rather than that of a flaky croissant. The service, well it is what it is. The young man who served me first was pleasant, the female who served me the second time was laughing while she was serving me. She was laughing at the 2 young ubereats drivers who were talking to one another while they waited for the order to be prepared. Was listening to another language that funny? Won't be going back. Rubbish...
Read moreEvery time ive been to Grumpys the food has been fantastic. Highlights are the halloumi roll and the nutella slice. They also sell my fave ever ice tea called Teza, natural, sugar free and made in NZ. The coffee isn't amazing however and have found it reasonably inconsistent.
The reason for my 3 stars is, (as it says on the label...) The staff are really unfriendly. Ive only ever been served by 1 young girl who returned my smile and often I feel like the staff think i'm being a nuisance... but i'm not doing anything weird?! Literally trying to be a paying customer and i'm always met with a huff and frankly, rudeness. There have been many times where ive gone somewhere else because of this.
Bad customer service means your customers won't want to come back. I recommend they take this on and change their attitude to create a warmer...
