Better than Art College! Best thing I did in 2023 was sign up for Drawing 1. I see the world quite differently now. After years of scribbling away in the margins, a friend gave me a nudge to do a course. Carmel’s courses are great for learning techniques that take you to the next level. After Drawing 1, I did drawing 2, colour and painting. Now making art is totally rewarding for me. The studio is fabulous… got a gallery but most importantly, it’s a community of practice. There is a few people working away in their own sections - it’s great to have glimpses into other peoples passion, process and pace. Very supportive inspiring atmosphere. Drawing and painting has been a hobby for me for some time. The wholistic approach in teaching at Scratch Art Space has helped me tremendously to fill gaps in knowledge and techniques. Students get knowledge of why artists use certain approaches to observation, line, tone, and structure in drawing and how to use those skills to push creative ideas and techniques. Students also get to engage A LOT of FUN creative exercises that rewire your brain to see the world around you in a different light. Saturday drawing was great! Chill vibes, the model (Toni) was excellent, and it was very inexpensive. The venue itself is exactly what you'd expect from an art gallery in an industrial area- industrial and artistic at the same time.

The gallery space itself is quite small, but the work on the display was charming and as I was leaving the artist herself was present.

I'll definitely be back for more like...
