Was a bit disappointed when we got the deisal rather than the steam train . I hyped my grandson up that he would see all the smoke come out the train chimney like on the video i took as id been on 3 times the in the school holidays. Apparently at times the deisal engine is used. I ts great theres a few time options. Price is reasonable. Staff are really nice and friendly. Not much wait to purchase tickets prior to travel at the station ticket box. I was on the train when a car hit it at a crossing a couple of weeks ago. The staff were very good at keeping patrons informed as to what was going on and that there was no one injured. Buses were provided to get people vack to there starting locations to there vehicles. It was handled very professionally and resolved in a short time once police gave clearance for us to disembark etc.. My client with intellectual disability was very concerned at the possibility of the engine not being servicable for a while. We called and spoke to a man that was very informative and the engine was only off the job for 1 day. I recomend the rude and return trip. I would choose to go from Goolwa on the earlier train then return on the later train from Victor Harbour as its a nice town to have a feed and maybe go accross to the granite island on the beautiful horse drawn carriage and...

Read moreThis 'Steamranger Heritage Railway' provides a trip into the past with this Cockle train, while still making passengers comfortable on nice padded seats (which travellers of long time ago might not have known). We boarded at Victor Harbor Railway Station and spent some short time in Goolwa, before embarking for the return trip. This activity is very appealing to families with young children, and equally so to adults who love an excursion into history. This track was the first train line used in South Australia. The journey today takes about 30 minutes one way. Passing through picturesque land- and seascape, along some of the Fleurieu Peninsula coastline, amateur photographers are kept very busy. The original cockle train was horse drawn before the steam engine was introduced. People who used the early train service did so to collect cockles at the Goolwa beaches, which then gave the train its name. While travelling here today passengers can listen to a informative comments over the speaker system. A wonderful experience this short journey! We liked it so much we came again during our fortnight's stay in...
