We attended a meal and band function last Saturday night at this establishment. As my partner and I have gluten-free and dairy-free dietary requirements our friend had mentioned this when booking the table and was assured we could be catered for. I was advised to contact a staff member prior to attending the function to discuss our needs. I did this in the week leading up to the function and was assured our dietary requirements could be met by substituting and not eliminating ingredients; we were to write our requirements on a order form upon arriving at the function which we did when indicating the dishes we would like to order. My partner and I ordered the same meals. To our disappointment the entrée was two small pieces of dry flavourless cooked chicken on a shaslik, with several chat potatoes as the base; any sauces had been removed. The main course was a relatively small serving of cooked fish which was flavourless, once again a stack of chat potatoes were on the base. There was no sauce or seasoning provided with the fish. I had to approach the bar staff and ask for a wedge of lemon, in order to try and give some flavour to the fish. The meal component of the function was overpriced and very disappointing! To serve up an entrée and main course with the same base of potatoes was an insult to our intelligence. When will some establishments realise that eliminating ingredients is not catering for people with dietary requirements? Good establishments substitute with alternatives. To add to the bad experience with the meal, where we were seated was extremely cold. Another table of diners also found the location to be cold. We commented to a staff member and to her credit she did close a rear door which was in a lobby, behind another door and switched on the air conditioner. However, this did little, if anything to improve the comfort for us. We will not be returning to this...
Read moreDisappointing at best🤦♂️... Upon entry for I had high hopes as the location was quite appealing. Unfortunately that was as as good as it got. When we arivved it was the start of lunch and very quiet only not one other table was seated at the time of our ordering yet almost 40mins past before we received any meals, no steaks were ordered just seafood and a few burgers. Being hungry waiting we ventured over to the buffet to see what was on offer only cold salad which appered to an assortment of tinned veg and salad (the warm dinner rolls were nice though). Then things quickly went from bad to worse once finally reciving our mains. The kids menu 'cheese burgers'were probably the only thing that made it to the table that was edible. I ordered the seafood basket $27 (Dory, salt and pepper squid, scallop, prawns chips) thinking a venue across the road from the beach should have some nice fresh produce, I was wrong. The Prawns had a very strange chemical taste and smell almost resembling bleach? salt and pepper squid tasted of raw flour, the ONE scallop in the basket was overcooked appering to be almost stewed, the dory was dry but probably the best thing on the plate and the chips were undercooked. When approching management over our issues I must give credit the manager did apologise blaming the issues on frozen pre packed seafood that could be dodgy from the distributor. 80% of our meal was left remaining and we not offered a part refund just a replacement, but at this stage our appetite was lost. We just advised him to inform the chef of our issues for there future reference. I hope this venue improves as it's in a brilliant location and has the potential to thrive but for now it requires some very large...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of organising a Christmas function for 103 people. Many other venues in the Victor Harbor that could possibly accommodate our required numbers, didn't seem at all interested in having our club patronize their business. But, from the first enquiry to the final day, the event manager and staff of the Hotel Crown bent over backwards to ensure our event was a success. The menu consisted of choices from a selection of 3 entrees, 3 main courses, 3 sweets, (including vegetarian and gluten free catered for) a tea and coffee station, exclusive bar service and even included bon bons which no other venue would consider, all for the price of $40 a head. No outrageously inflated prices because of the word 'Christmas' included in our event. The room was beautifully decorated and set up according to our needs, PA system, and a screen for a PowerPoint presentation The food was served to the time schedule I gave the staff as we had speeches and a Christmas performance to include in our event. I can't thank the manager, chef and staff for making our Christmas lunch such a success. It's no easy task serving 3 courses to 103 guests and they did a magnificent job with such a fantastic, happy, obliging demeanour. Thank you. I can highly recommend the Hotel Crown for such a large event. PS My 3 courses...
