I drove a solid 6.5 hours from country Victoria to witness the legendary 5 o'clock Wave at Wagga Wagga Beach. I even packed a surfboard (and a lot of snacks), fully prepared to become one of the chosen few to ride this mystical ripple. As the clock hit 4:59, the anticipation in the air was thicker than the mosquitoes. And then... well, nothing happened. Not a splash, not a ripple, just flat, tranquil water—as if the river was mocking me.
But don’t be fooled. The 5 o’clock Wave is REAL, I swear... I just wasn’t deemed worthy enough this time. You see, the wave only shows itself to the most loyal Waggarian believers, and I clearly need to put in more miles to earn my stripes.
The locals will swear by it—heck, I even met a guy at the pub who said he once saw his mate’s cousin's dog surfing it, but you know how these things go. Despite the absence of said wave, I still feel enlightened. The legend grows stronger every day, and I consider myself a convert.
For anyone planning to make the journey: bring hope, a sturdy sense of humor, and maybe a deck chair for the wait. It’s out there... somewhere. 🌊
10/10 will try again....
