The cultural mainstay of the Southern Downs region is right here in Warwick. The Warwick Art Gallery has a program planned years in advance. In three distinct exhibition spaces you can get a handle on the local art scene and view specially curated exhibitions and important touring exhibitions. The major shows are held in the Main Gallery, while the work of local artists and groups takes centre stage at the new Orange Wall gallery. Every year the Warwick Art Gallery stages the Jumpers and Jazz in July festival, an eccentric blend of live jazz performances and yarnbombing.

We do love a regional art gallery, so always try to pop in wherever we are. We have been here quite a few times, and managed it again on our recent road trip to Sydney. It's a nice space with bright, airy rooms; pleasant staff and interesting exhibitions. We saw Do You See What I See by Fiona Hayes, a local artist, and Once Upon a Table by Lauren M. Both terrific, quirky and interesting. There are armchairs for resting, and some arty things to buy. Recommend a visit if you're in the area.

Lovely little gallery with a section for children to explore making art. We saw the Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award exhibition when we were there. The prize winner ($30,000) was a charcoal drawing that was simply amazing - very realistic and not at all what you might expect from charcoal. So many more spectacular drawings in the exhibit, we very much enjoyed our visit!
