I paid €184 for a 2 hour 1-2-1 lesson as although I’ve been skiing in Austria 3 times I feel like I was lacking certain skills that were stopping me progressing. I enjoy blue slopes and light red slopes. I’ve done group lessons before in the UK but decided to pay the €184 for an intense lesson solely focused on me.
I wasn’t going to write a review but after telling the group of friends I went skiing with about my experience they all encouraged me to give you the feedback from my experience so here we go.
My lesson was booked for 11am and on my email it stated to arrive at 10:50, when I did arrive at the kiosk they advised me that they had my lesson down for 11:30 dispite my booking email saying 11am so I had to wait 30 minutes for my instructor Helena to arrive.
Once 11:30 came I met Helena who asked me what I wanted to get out of the lesson then she took me to the first slope to the left of the kiosk. She asked me to follow and ski behind her and she said - “this will be hard for me you can turn ok but everything else in your body is wrong. I don’t quite know what to do with you…. Let me think”
We went down the slope again and a young girl skied between us, Helena followed her down the slope shouting at her calling her stupid over and over again and although the young girl apologised and it really wasn’t a big deal Helena carried on calling her stupid which was really quite out of order and I could see the young girl getting upset.
After skiing down the same slope about 6 times Helena kept looking me up and down and shaking her head saying ‘I honestly don’t know what to do with you, I’m sure we’ll figure it out but right now I’m stuck, your body is all wrong”
I’m quite a quiet person but I’m young, fit and determined so I kept quiet and just tried my best to listen and follow instructions. She kept doing different drills with me and then shaking her head and thinking about what she would do with me.
On the ski lift Helena then went on to complain about the state of the snow and slopes and claim she really couldn’t teach anyone to ski in such conditions.
I question why they happily take your money if this is the case? I made small talk with Helena but she failed to ask any personal questions about me, she wasn’t interested in getting to know me.
The next part of my lesson consisted of Helena asking if there was something wrong with my body? Am I tired? (to which I kept replying no), she told me she wasn’t going to be teaching for much longer as she wanted to be with her family which I totally understand but feel like maybe she’s already signed out of teaching.
Towards the end of the ‘lesson’ if you can call it that. I felt Helena was wasting time with me. She asked me to ski on one ski for well over half an hour. I really struggled with this and told her I wasn’t enjoying it. She insisted I needed to learn to ski on one ski to understand weight distribution. I tried my very best but I still got the shaking head from her.
Helena skied back to the hut and cut the lesson short by 10 minutes for an unknown reason, my lesson finished at 1:20 so I didn’t get the last 10 Minutes of my lesson. By the time the lesson was up I was in tears after she kept putting me down, Helena could see that I was upset and suggested I ‘watch more YouTube videos on skiing and go and have a beer’ I honestly don’t remember the last time I cried, I’m not an emotional person but 2 hours with Helena had this effect on me and I’d paid €184 for the pleasure to come out feeling completely and utterly useless and that I never want to set foot on a ski slope again.
Money wasted and confidence rock bottom.
I feel like if you run this ski school, you...
Read moreBooked 2-hour lesson for 2 of us. My friend was skiing in the mountains first time ever and the weather was not the best one so I asked for some really good instructor to make my friend comfortable. The boss at the office promised we'll have very good one.
Next morning same boss on the mountain did not recognize us at all saying they have too many people coming and going. He introduced us to our instructor: the young guy who was in his first month of being instructor ever.
So you have a guy who had never skied before and a guy who had never instructed before. Not the best combo. Even if instructor was nice and friendly and trying his best.
He said he might have been fully booked the next day, so we book another 2 lessons with their office with hopefully another instructor. Nobody asked us if we were happy with our lessons and if we want same instructor or not.
To our surprise on the mountain we were introduced again to the very same guy. We asked the boss if we can change to another more experienced one. The boss said he would check. And then he came back with our instructor and said in his face that to switch is not possible, so we'll have to have a lesson with him again.
That was really weird. So now we had a very upset young guy (who was actually nice but not yet knowing and experienced) and us in a very awkward situation.
We spend another 2 hours for another EUR 135, and switched to another school. There we had no problems with getting experienced instructor from the first request.
Would not come again to Mayrhofen 3000, as they look smiling and nice but don't really care if you are...
Read moreTwo weeks ago, my boyfriend and I took a private lesson with Alena. It wasn't my first ski lesson, but it was one of the best I've ever had. Alena really focused on what we were already doing good and what could be improved. She gave a clear explanation which made it easy to understand how the ski technique works and how to translate it into practice. Not only did she explain the technique, she also observed what we were doing and gave constructive personal feedback. Due to her way of teaching, I managed to make ‘the click’ of how it should really be done, to feel what I was doing wrong and how I have to apply the correct technique. I understood (finally 😉 ) what was wrong with my posture and gained more confidence. When we skied alone afterwards, I kept 'hearing' Alena's advice and it really helped me a lot. Alena does more than 'just giving ski lessons', she looks at the individual and adjusts her lesson. It is clear that she has a lot of experience and not everyone is given to be able to teach and transfer knowledge like this. Moreover, it was also a very nice, positive lesson and we laughed a lot. Alena is a bubbly personality who gives you energy. I read a review below about a 'Helena'. If this is about Alena, I can only say that we had a totally different experience. We would return to Austria just to be able to take...
