Hotel Gasthof Waldcafe — Restaurant in Mayrhofen

Great Hotel for your alpine holiday. We stayed here as a combination deal with our ski pas, bus trip and this hotel (including breakfast and dinner), because we went in low season it was a really good deal.

Now let's start with the facility, the rooms are really nice with comfortable beds and a good bathroom, The shower takes a little bit to get warm but not long at all. One complaint I do have is with the ski room, it's way too small and unorganised. I often had to place my skies against a regular wall or put it in a slot which already had gear of 2 other people in it. The ski room honestly needs at least twice the amount of slots.

Now the service, such lovely people. Our Belgium waiter was always hilarious and a joy to be around, he even joined us to go partying one day, the morning lady was also super chill and helpful while the owner/chef is a 5th generation young gun who is passionate about cooking and has much love for his business.

Location is quite good, its within 10 minutes of all lifts, train station and Apres ski spots so you never have to walk that far.

Now the food. So all the food we had was part of our half board stay, of course this is on a lower budget than the A La Carte menu, so only use this part of the review if you expect to stay here with Half board. So honestly, the food every night was very good, especially the mains but I have to be honest but the portions could really have been a bit bigger, most nights I was left a bit hungry. Also because the starter was a soup every day with basically the same broth, please have a bit more variety with the starters. Last night we tried the A La Carte grand Dessert and it was absolutely amazing, it clearly shows the skill of the owner, probably should have tried A La Carte at least 1 night. Definitely recommend checking their regular restaurant out.

Overall I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel and I do recommend people to check it out, but I do believe that there are some things they can improve upon so I hope when we ever return I can give it the...

...linksseitig des WALDCAFEs fand ein Wald-Weihnachtsmarkt statt, mit unter anderem Feuerschalen und Wurstwaren, Honig, Käse, Kerzen und vielen anderen Waren aus eigener Herstellung der dort lebenden Menschen. Um 19.00 Uhr ins WALDCAFE.... Den Tisch einen Tag zuvor vorbestellt, weil wegen der in ein bis zwei Tagen beginnenden Wintersaison die Anzahl der Touristen/Urlauber merklich stieg.... Rechtsseitig des WALDCAFEs befindet sich eine grössere Eislauffläche im Freien, mit gut hörbarer (😂) Disco Musik und dazugehöriger sehr bunter Discobeleuchtung. Die Eislaufbahn wurde von Menschen aller Altersklassen hoch frequentiert. Als wir ins WALDCAFE gingen wurden wir sehr freundlich aufgenommen, von einer sehr gepflegten Mitarbeiterin, die sich auch den gesamten Abend sehr engagiert kümmerte. Die Einrichtung könnte viel moderner sein und trotzdem traditionell und gemütlich erscheinen...,aber das ist nur ein persönlicher Geschmack. An der Hygiene mangelt es im WALDCAFE keinesfalls. Leider gibt es keinen Kaiserschmarrn, welches der Grund meines Erscheinens war, ...aber die heiße, leckere, satt machende Graukäsesuppe mit gerösteten Brotwürfeln entschädigte mich (etwas). Und die herzliche Bedienung ebenso. Die Preise empfinde ich als mittel-, bis hochstufig, aber in dieser Touristenhochburg sich preislich eher im unteren Drittel befindlich. Die leider sehr überschaubare Auswahl an Gerichten ist verständlich auf Grund der Tatsache, dass nur zwei Köche dort tätig sind, aber enttäuschend ist es ebenso. Entweder sollte man dann in Erwägung ziehen,dass drei Köche die Arbeit bewältigen ... ODER man sollte tatsächlich traditionellere Gerichte anbieten, wie zum Beispiel Kaiserschmarrn..., aber dafür angeblich traditionelle Gerichte wie beispielsweise Spaghetti Bolognese von der Speisekarte entfernen..., aber das ist nur meine persönliche Meinung. Alles in allem waren es aber sehr schöne Stunden, zu der die sehr angenehme Mitarbeiterin/Bedienung mit ihrer herzlichen und aufmerksamen Art sehr beitrug, da man sich herzlich willkommen fühlte. We were a company of 15 people who had a great time in Mayrhofen and one of the main reasons was the welcoming hospitality at Gasthof Waldcafe. The professional staff did everything perfect to make us feel like home.

The rooms was tidy and cosy with comfortable beds. We woke up every morning to a beautiful view of the sunrise (photo taken from our hotel window). The food in the evening was a three course meal with great taste and they always made sure to ask if there was any allergies in the company. It was a very close walk to the town and lift to the ski area from the hotel.
