Review about the ski rental shop: I arrived to rent ski equipment for my first ever time skiing (total beginner). I pre-booked the rental several weeks in advance and filled in all my details, including my shoe size, which is a European size 35.5.
When I arrived, the staff told me that they had no ski boots that small available. So they told me the best option was for me to go for the smallest boots available in size 37. They asked me if it fit correctly - to which I responded that they felt loose but I had no clue since I have never worn ski boots before? I also told them that the boots were very high for me (almost up to my knees as I am very short) and that they were squeezing my leg very tightly at the top of my calf. They said this was the best they could do.
I then went to my beginner lesson, where I discovered that as the boots were too large (length, width and height) that I could not control my skis at all. So I went back after my lesson to change my boots. A different young guy helped me to change my boots to children's boots of the right size. These were SO MUCH BETTER. As I am around the height of an average 11 year old boy, of course children's shoes would fit me better. I'm not sure why they didn't offer me this in the first place!
As we were leaving the store, we saw another short lady come into the store and ask for adults size 36 boots to a different member of staff. To which she immediately got given adult size 36 boots. We were all totally dumbfounded why these were never offered to me and why they made me size up in the first place??
I also went with a group of other beginners, who also had trouble finding the right size ski boots. The staff said some pretty offensive things about the width of their calves. In my opinion, staff should not insult their customers about their leg shape, but help them find the right solution! I do not think this is an uncommon problem - every human has a different shape and no one should be treated like a freak of nature.
In general, the staff seemed extremely young and inexperienced. I asked a few of them how long they had worked there and most of them responded that it was their first week, and one guy even said it was his first day!
Regardless, after a stressful first morning, we managed to find a solution together in the afternoon. Hence the extra star.
Review about the lessons: I booked a package of beginner lessons. On the first day the instructor did not teach us anything, he just told us to put our skis on and took us up an anchor lift to throw us down a slope, without any instruction on how to ski parallel, turn or slow down/stop. Half the class were total beginners, and we all fell down the entire way. I had to stop half way through the lesson. I was pretty scarred by the experience and almost decided to quit as I thought this is how all lessons go.
However my friends convinced me that this was not normal so I decided to try again the next day, in a different beginner group. This went WAY BETTER. The new instructor taught us loads of techniques on the baby slopes and was very patient. My confidence level and faith in humanity went up again and I learned to ski and even managed to complete a few blue slopes without falling!
Hence again, mixed review. If you are a total beginner, just know that being thrown down a slope without any instructions is NOT NORMAL! It was bad luck and bad service that I got given such a rogue and aggressive instructor on...
Read moreIt was our 4th time in Mayrhofen and 1st time we had to use the ski rent and hire a ski instructor as we brought our 7 year old daughter with us. First off, on the day of arrival we were coming late and needed to pick up the equipment on Saturday before 18:00 because the course started next day at 9:00. We came to the shop 5 minutes before the deadline expecting it to be closing already, but there were literally hundred people and the stuff were working like crazy. Lines were going fast and ALL the stuff was incredibly kind and helpful. We left at 18:25 after picking up 2 sets of skis, boots and helmets, adjusting the skis and the guys kept working until everyone took/returned the equipment. Amazing! And on the day 3 we wanted to change the ski boots for the bigger ones and it literally took no more than 5 minutes. And most importantly, the Ski school for kids. Our 7 year old kid doesn't speak any German or English and it was our concern, although during the booking process the team said it won't be a problem. As most kids she gets bored or tired from doing something new and hard and skiing for the first time is for sure. But the instructor, Tessa, made a miracle of teaching our daughter and communicating with her with 0 language understanding, making the learning process so fun and cool our kid fell in love both with her and the skiing obviously! The SECOND learning day we saw Tessa with kids already on the blue slope #28 and were shocked at how kids who saw the skis for the first time only yesterday nailed the slope! We booked the school only for 3 days instead of 5 and we deeply regret it now, as by day 5 they already went to the red ones. We tried to teach her a bit more ourselves in the last 2 days but it didn't work out that well, which showed us how great of a work Tessa have done teaching our kid the first days!
Thank you guys so much, both teams down in the shop and up on the mountain! Next year we're taking the 5 days course for our girl and won't even look for other schools that have instructors speaking our language. You all did an amazing job, sending our regards to all of you and Tessa especially. See...
Read moreWe couldn’t be happier with the experience our daughter had with Lieke. She started in a group lesson, where Lieke created a fun and supportive environment, making her feel comfortable and confident. It was incredible to see how much progress she made in just a few days.
The 1:1 lesson that followed was absolutely fantastic. Lieke focused on helping her master parallel skiing on red slopes, tailoring the lesson to her specific needs and skill level. Not only did her technique improve significantly, but she also loved every minute of it.
Lieke has a wonderful way of combining technical expertise with a warm, encouraging approach. Our daughter is already asking when she can ski with her again. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a dedicated and talented instructor!
UPDATED: Below is my updated review to share our experience of the second week of skiing with Snowsports Mayrhofen.
We had an amazing experience with Jasper as my daughter’s ski instructor in the advanced group. Over just five days, she learned so much and improved her skiing technique significantly. Jasper really took the time to accommodate her skill level and personality, making sure she felt challenged but comfortable at the same time.
He also created a wonderful atmosphere for the children, encouraging them to build friendships and work together as a group. My daughter’s confidence grew immensely, and she truly enjoyed every moment of her time at ski school.
Thank you, Jasper, for your dedication and enthusiasm—you made this experience unforgettable for my daughter....
