Lovely little educational attraction for kids. Small fee of $5.00 per adult and $3.50 per child. Carol was a joy and very helpful and Patrick was patient and interactive with the kids. It took us no more than half hour to go through. We walked up the boardwalk, the views were out of this world with the aquamarine water studded with yachts and catamarans. The beach was glorious, the water was cool, calm and crystal clear with lots of tiny sea critters for the snorkelers with the reef just off the shore. The toilet facilities were very clean ( and I am VERY particular with public washrooms... think Monk!) and there is a shower area for post-swimming clean up and de-sanding. Highly recommended, take the kids Note: Used Google Maps for directions and it took me through Highway C... No. No. Save your shocks...Use another route, the road is in disrepair, use the road to Sandy Lane and then head north. And keep an eye out for the monkeys up the boardwalk, they're some spiteful, bitter...
Read moreRelaxed beach with toilets and changing rooms that are well maintained. There is also a lifeguard on duty although I'm not sure how much attention they are paying. Umbrellas and beach beds are available at normal rates. There are some shady spots if you want to rough it. There is a snack bar, we had chicken roti which turned out to be quite a big meal and a bit stoggy but probably good food for a teenager. Beer also available I don't recall the rum situation. I snorkelled most of the way out to the yellow marker buoys and whilst I found a line of rocks out there I wasn't sure whether that was the wreck. Decent selection of fish to see and better that Mullins beach. The further out you go the clearer the water gets but it's never going be gin clear with the proximity of the sandy beach hence the 4 stars...
Read moreI’ve broken it down for you below. Snorkelling? One of the best spots on the island. Definitely the best on the West Coast.
Playground for kids? Nope. All playground is closed.
Picnic tables? The tables are there, but there are a lot of rubbish sacks right opposite which if it doesn’t bother you, bon apettit!
Tennis? Tennis courts with basketball nets are concrete, old, tired and dated- but they’re usable and free of charge.
Swimming? Good, but watch out for the flags.
Walking? Decent boardwalk but the Hastings one is better. The churchyard is nice too.
All in all, I would personally go on the beach through the Heron Bay gap and swim over to snorkel in the reserve. It’s ok for an impromptu picnic but due to the amount of garbage dumped right across from the tables, I wouldn’t turn...
