A wonder of the world! It took me all morning and part of the afternoon to get through this beautiful basilica. I can't even begin to describe what a wonderful place this is. I would just sit at the bottom, and stare at the ceiling and wonder; who in their right mind was up there?! It is so tall! The window art is unbelievable, the middle section of the basilica with all the flags is stunning. Every detail, every carve, every column and painting. This place is so mind blowing. They have a small section on the second floor that shows you (with pictures) how the basilica was built and the history behind it. As you're looking into the basilica from the main entrance, on the middle left hallway by the end of it you'll see some offices. In there is a tourist office where you pay a small amount to go to the top of the basilica, please do it! Super worth it. Overall it is one of the places I will forever remember, it is magnificent. (Tip: I sat down and played some Hans Zimmer music on my headphones and added an unmatchable...

An impressive and often underrated landmark in Brussels. The National Basilica of the Sacred Heart is one of the largest churches in the world and a striking example of Art Deco architecture. From the outside, it commands attention with its massive dome and twin towers. Inside, the space is vast, serene, and beautifully detailed without being overly ornate.
One of the highlights is the panoramic terrace—definitely worth the small fee. You get sweeping views of Brussels and on clear days, the landscape stretches far beyond. It’s peaceful up there, and a great photo opportunity.
The basilica isn’t overly crowded, which adds to the contemplative atmosphere. There’s also a small museum and café onsite. It’s a bit out of the city center, but easy to reach by public transport.
A must-visit for architecture buffs, history lovers, or anyone looking to experience a quieter side of Brussels beyond the usual...
Read moreGrandiose, as is the exterior. A gem of art deco. The basilica was built around 1950 I believe, in a modern style. Many people, including myself, don't realize it was built in art deco. 🕌 We always think of places of worship dating back a long, long time ago. This is a truly modern church. Visit the exposition that details its construction on the first floor. The dome is more beautiful still on the inside. The light cascading downwards is a delight. Visit the panorama if you have the courage. I'm afraid of heights. I remained glued to the entrance of the elevator 🛗 but the view is magnificent. You can see every-thing from the atomium to other sights in Brussels and further up. The elevator is an interesting experience too. The roof is transparent and you can see the sky above as you're taken up. A must see if you live in Brussels or visit this beautiful city, so under-rated...
