Museum of the City of Water — Attraction in Spa

The museum has some English explanation but not enough. The permanent exhibition (the history of Spa) stopped at some point, and looking for a chance of an extension for modern history. The temporary exhibition showed some old photos of spa together with old items (furniture, gambling tables,...), and offered a nice view of how people live at the golden age of Spa. Charming little spot, located 4 mins by foot from the train station.

The building used to be the mansion of Princess Marie-Henriette. I learned a few interesting facts about the town, e.g. that the first anti-gambling legislation was enacted in 1857.

Quite a number of well-known people have visited this charming town, such as Casanova or Peter the Great. The exponates were beautiful.

And the lady who welcomed me was absolutely great - kind and passionate about the place she's working at....

Qui a décidé que ce musée serait accessible une ou deux personnes par 15 minutes ? De quoi dégoûter toute personne cultivée. Nous avons été prié d’attendre dans la chaleur 10 minutes pour une courte visite. Quand on sait que ce musée ouvert seulement de 14 à 18 heures occupe près de 3 personnes temps plein . Sans compter l’entretien . Et qu’en dehors de juillet-août..... personne ou si peu . Qq écoles gratuitement. Faut-il croire que la conservatrice en chef (!) de cette villa se prend pour la Reine Marie-Henriette, épouse refoulée et frustrée de Léopold II? Triste accueil. Le covid jusitifie 1,5 m de distanciation sociale. Pas 15 minutes entre deux visites. De plus, assez de bénévoles, férus d’histoire de Spa assureraient à moindre coût, l’accueil de la villa. Mais la”nouvelle reine Marie-Henriette” serait sans doute blessée. Et oh ! Les finances communales sont-elles en boni .... ? Et bien, non . La commune de Spa est en perte.
