I'm a history buff and since I'm in the city of Indianapolis, Indiana for a short stay I decided to visit the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, home of the 23rd President of the United States. A national historic landmark, the stately 1875 mansion has been restored with over 10,000 artifacts, including furniture, clothing and artwork. This Victorian home takes you back in time and since the Harrisons were members of the elite of Indianapolis, you get to see how the other half lived in the late 1800s. Really enjoyed the tour of all 3 floors of the mansion. The tour guide was excellent. If you're visiting Indianapolis anytime in the near future, carve out a couple of hours to travel back to the Gilded Age and see the home of the 23rd President.

Our docent is 21 years old and incredibly informed. I brought my camera which was fine. Just no flash photography. My children are 9 and 10 and they both held on and didn't get bored the entire time. There are some very steep stairs you will climb, though I thought I read about an elevator. I was a little disappointed to learn that many of the artifacts aren't original to the home. Also, I think one of the side notes our docent told us was incorrect. Helen Keller signed a document. She mentioned her teacher as Alice. It's Annie Sullivan. But not a whole lot to do with our visit, either. Editing to thank the museum for replying! Our docent led me to believe it swung in the other direction. Fantastic! I still ended up taking 256 photos!

Nice tour, but as a warning not the best for small kids. We brought our three y.o. and two y.o. The tours are pretty quiet with only the guide taking and no background noise with everyone in the same small room. Be aware of that. Otherwise our guide was knowledgable. The only thing we did not care for was how much knowledge he shared. Weird, I know, but let me explain. He talked about just about every single item in every room. At the end of it, we honestly couldn't remember much because of how much detail he shared. Some might appreciate that. (As a side note, I definitely recommend Andrew Jackson's hermitage in Nashville. Kid friendly and they share the big important info.)

I was a previous garden volunteer at this house in the rose garden. I really enjoyed the Croquet Roquet event and signed up for a future event! 🎟️🎫🎫 It was an opportunity to meet some great people who were volunteers, college students and professionals. They have a parking lot for their volunteers and off-street parking for museum visitors. Handicap Access: The main building and a separate building with public restrooms both have handicap access. Elevator assistance is available with advance notice in the two-story museum.
