I would love to give this place more stars but over the last 5 years of coming here, I rarely have items ready to go when I’ve ordered them. I’ve waited an additional 10+ minutes almost every time I order ahead, hoping that “maybe this time they will have it ready on time.” I know things are busy and things happen, but an establishment should not offer ordering online for pick up if they are not going to have things read by the time someone sees it will be ready. Again this is not the first time but probably the 20th time this has happened over the years. I always hesitate to post because the workers are usually kind. In a few instances the workers cared more about whatever was happening on their phones than to start making drinks or beverages. I’ve worked as a barista before and know that things can get backed up when it’s super busy, but, alas, every time I’ve had to wait (which is every time) it is not busy at all in the cafe. I’m not sure if this system will ever be improved, I’d suggest not offering online ordering. While I may be one of few posts on here mentioning the amount of time I’ve had to wait, every other person I’ve talked to has said the same about this establishment: coffee is good for having a nearby shop, the food is decent and the workers are usually kind …. But the wait is always what takes a lot time and is upsetting. I’ve also heard that the workers only get paid minimum minimum wage… I know they get tips, but I still think this is absolutely absurd considering the price of most of the drinks one drink is easily them out that one worker is getting paid at the store… I’m not sure what the Reason is for not paying these people more but this is absolutely absurd. I think sparing at least three or more dollars to give them a higher hourly wage would make sense especially on days when it’s less busy… Again speaking as someone who has worked in the customer service industry before this just seems absolutely Ludacris especially in the...
Read moreI made my first visit to Foundry Provisions on a weekday afternoon in July (Wednesday, July 26, to be exact). It was a disappointment. The coffee shop was mostly empty with only 3 other customers hanging out with their laptops. The "barista" was very young and not particularly welcoming. She was making a sandwich or something at the food prep area and came over to take my order after a few minutes. She wasn't wearing any gloves to handle the food when she came over to take my order. Hopefully Foundry Provisions isn't sloppy when it comes to proper food handling, etc. My experience definitely doesn't make me want to order from the food menu. I asked the "barista" some pointed questions about the coffee menu and the food items, but she wasn't particularly articulate or knowledgeable about the menu and couldn't really describe the qualities of the beans used for drip or the espresso drinks. As far as pastries, there wasn't much to chose from and nothing looked especially appetizing. I ordered a bottomless cup of coffee and a blueberry muffin. The total with tip was $9.35, a bit steep for the Indy area (to give you a comparison, the lunch buffet at India Palace is less expensive). I just came from San Francisco and Chicago and had MUCH better coffee shop experiences for the same price. I asked the barista to warm up the muffin. It came out a few minutes later, mostly cold. I stayed around for an hour or so to use the wi-fi. Not planning on making a return trip to Foundry Provisions. The coffee shop/cafe desperately needs more training and more...
Read moreshort version: I would recommend their coffee to anyone who has all day to wait around, but definitely eat your meal elsewhere.
Long version: My partner and I wanted to support a cute local business while enjoying a nice lunch outside with our pup. We got almost all of those things at this establishment. Wonderful coffee (some of the best I have had) was not enough to redeem the nonexistent service we received. We waited for our food and drinks at the near empty restaurant for quite a while, and when we went inside to ask about the wait we were met with blank stares. Two staff members looked us in the eyes and then went back to their conversation, after about 5 minutes of standing in front of the counter with no acknowledgment from the staff we sat back down at our outdoor table. When we went inside again (about 15 minutes after the first interaction) to ask for our food to-go (at this point we just wanted to go home), we were met with mediocre food. A soggy sandwich dripping mayonnaise and a few pieces of turkey... I would recommend their coffee to anyone who has all day to wait around, but definitely eat your...
