It's a national treasure and a world renowned post cars for a reason. The views are incredible day and night, specially at sunset because the sun sets behind corcovado and christ redeemer. Photos won't do any justice to what your eyes will see.

Pay for the express entry. Do it. It's not just a fee to skip the entry queue, you'll get a wrist band and skip every queue to the cable car. And there are 2 mountains so you will travel by cable car at least 4 times (2 up, 2 down). It's always busy, even in winter. If you have the express wristband you will skip hours of queueing.

There are bugs up in Morro do Pão de Açúcar (sugarlaf, the highest peak) after sunset. They're harmless but very annoying, a d there's a lot of them. You're surrounded by tropical forests after all, that's their turf. So if you plan to be there after dark you might want to keep that part of the visit short.

Morro da Urca (the first shorter mountain) is bigger, has a restaurant and shops, including an official havaianas store. And this is the best place to watch the sunset (see photos).

Special note to the staff and facilities - everything worked like a well oiled machine, they were many, they were present, they were helpful friendly and efficient. What a marvelous city! It struggles the issues that most of large cities do, but it has what the all the others don't: a combination of nature and concrete which is unique. It's like being in Paris, for its downtown architecture, and a taxiride distance from Amazon. To have a view of the city, there's no better place than the Sugar Loaf hill. Corcovado was amazing, as well. But the cable car ride to the Sugar Loaf took my breath away for its incredible moments. Up on the hill, the landscape is like nowhere in the world.
