Read moreThe boardwalk is a prime spot to be come golden hour and magic hour. A big view of the sky reflects on the often placid water, doubling its vibrance.
Baby ducks and goslings in the spring, painted turtles sun bathing on the floating logs during hot summer days, and plenty of parks to bring your kids to, if you have kids. (Might want to keep maybe 6 or 7$ on you for the occasional ice cream truck on summer days, that or risk ya kid feeling super left out). Lily pads in the fall, Never been there when it was snowy, but there's plenty of room for snow related shenanigans I bet.
Dog park and horseshoe pits as well as a fitness park,. all places I never stop, but see fair usage, middle aged folks and such who need a better hobby than day drinking as well as seniors that realize moving is how the body stays ticking. Plenty to see and do.
Night time is a different story. Walking through on the lit paths leaves you without a clue as to who or what is hiding in the darkness, probably best to keep your eyes open and ears unobstructed. Ya never know. Some times there are mostly, if any, harmless people who find a dark spot to sleep on occasion, and if there are regulars, they know how to stay hidden. Campers tend to mobilize and be gone before sun-up parlty because the cold mist off the lake soaks in the worst right before dawn. That and the first light set of joggers. Charging your phone before you go is probably best, hostile architecture, or city planning that happened before cellphones, means no plug-in spots in the park to use, the ones at the art center are either broken or the breaker for them is flipped off. Only feed the geese things you can find in the park, like blackberries. A cheeky way around the unhealthy affects bread has on their digestion. For people with kids, it's quite the experience them, I found.
And finally, back to the boardwalk. I had to walk through daily to the bus loop, so twice a day, around golden hour, and magic hour, I'd get to see the light show on my way through. If you ever get the chance, and you like pictures your phone just can't capture the essence of,...
Read moreMill Lake has gotten so much better over the last few years and I’m so happy to see it. Still there is a ton of aggressive geese here and even more aggressive during mating season and when their young are around. Don’t feed them and they might find another place to roost, even a slight decline in numbers would be wise. There’s lots of rabbits and squirrels around to which is great, good to see them thriving. Do not attempt to swim in the lake, it is still not as healthy as it seems, with no fresh water coming in and out, it is more for the fish and turtles. You can canoe and kayak on it but it is a smaller size lake so don’t expect to much. Lots of birthday party’s go on here in the many gazebos available to the community. Two large play structures for the kiddos to play on and one larger spray park for the family to cool down in. There is the outdoor swimming pool also, be sure to check the hours as many times there is private swims going on or the Abby whalers practicing. Also a great place to play Pokémon Go! Eight gyms and lots of stops to spin, good spawn points, great for community days and raid hours; be respectful of the people walking around the park and step aside for them to pass, don’t forget to stay aware of your surroundings and look up once and a while. Show courtesy and if someone asks why everyone is on there phone casually explain it to them in the...
