Blast from the past -memories of my childhood. We went on the stat Monday after a long weekend and arrived around opening. Overall give it 4/5 stars - kids are under 8 and they had a blast. Based on the restrictions on a couple of the slides, you want to ensure your kids are at least 48” above to ride every slide (faster tube slides have the restrictions). First, address some common feedback: 1. Lineups -of course there will be lineups. What do you expect? They weren’t terrible and things moved quickly. Many lines didn’t go past the first few steps below the slide entrance platforms. The park didn’t seem at capacity and maybe we hit it on the right day!. It seemed busier in the areas with seating- grass, tables etc. with many people are milling about with family, and not riding. Longest lineup was to pay for parking. 2. Water (?dirty). Wasn’t dirty today and keep in mind the areas around the slides are concrete and grass/dirt. Obviously you will track some junk in the water. 3. Outdated facilities - well, they have a point here. Washrooms barely updated (not renovated), and I didn’t see a family/individual washroom. The slides have been decently maintained from the splashdown days. Clean, but not new. Lockers at the front for valuables are a bit pricey (6.50$) and are old/janky, but do the trick I suppose. Other things 1. Weather -reached 25 degrees when we went but it was a bit breezy and felt a touch colder. If you plan on sitting in the shade, think ahead. 2. Parking- is managed by Big Splash ownership and does not appear to be outsourced. Inefficient method in which they write your car’s plate on a tracking sheet, and you must go back to your car to put up a hanger after you have paid. You can pay the dedicated attendant (hopefully there is more than one by the time you arrive) with the clipboard OR at the front gate if you’re buying tickets that day. Can’t prepay parking. 3. Coolers/food/tent/wagon etc- they didn’t check coolers or backpacks. We brought the kids meals/drinks and also a sun tent. Lots of space on the grass early, but it gets a bit crowded in the main area. Saw a couple of pop up 4 corner large tents out there too. We didn’t rent a picnic table and there seemed to be a lot of them available/unused-they are off to the side near the tube slides/volleyball courts. Smaller tables in the main pool went quickly. 4. Water shoes- I wore natives on the tube rides and it was not an issue. Saw some people with water shoes. 5. Concession-this isn’t a restaurant and you aren’t here for the food. We walked right up to cashier to order- no waits. Pizza was made fresh (not frozen) surprisingly good for an amusement park. The chicken strips were from frozen and meh. Fries were the typical thicker frozen food service company type.

If you're deciding between Big Splash and Cultus Lake Waterpark, here’s a firsthand comparison—we’ve been to both, and the difference is noticeable. My 12-year-old daughter found Big Splash disappointing, especially after experiencing Cultus Lake. The park is significantly smaller, with fewer slides, and some of them have peeling paint that actually caused discomfort when sliding down. Both she and her friend complained that the gravel walkways were painful on bare feet—definitely not kid-friendly. As a parent, I was struck by how Big Splash charges for nearly everything—and the costs add up quickly. Despite visiting on a weekday, admission was slightly more expensive than Cultus Lake’s weekday rate. Then we paid an additional $20 for parking, and if you want a picnic table or bench, it’s another $28. Outside food isn’t allowed, although we did notice people sneaking some in without staff intervening. The on-site food options are limited to burgers, pizza, and fried fare, with a few healthier items like veggie sticks and fresh fruit—but at $9, those felt overpriced. Big Splash’s biggest advantage is proximity: if you live in Vancouver, it’s much closer than Cultus Lake, saving you considerable driving time. There is a small grassy area where you can set up a shelter or blanket, and I highly recommend bringing your own shade structure and chairs to avoid baking in the sun—unless tanning is your thing. For those willing to splurge, the park offers private cabanas ($175-$205) including a high-end one perched above the others that gives off a very “look down on the world” vibe and costs $350 to book on weekdays and an astonishing $450 on weekends. Those prices do not include admission and parking, but if you can afford those cabanas, then I doubt you’ll worry about admission fees or parking. Compared to Cultus Lake Waterpark, Big Splash felt underwhelming and overpriced. Cultus offers more slides and variety, free parking, shaded picnic areas, and a better overall experience—especially for families. For us, the choice is clear: next time, we’ll be heading back to Cultus Lake, where the fun lasts longer and the fees are fairer.

I did an adults day at this park with my husband and my brother and we had a total blast! We had so much fun trying all the slides. We were there all day and noticed later in the day they adjusted the water, so the slides were all way faster and way more fun! The boomerango was quite the adrenaline rush. So we were glad to chill in the hot tub after. Though, we did notice there wasn’t an adults only hot tub as advertised on the website. The adult only one also has kids that the staff didn’t do anything about. But it was a slow day at the park, and it didn’t bother us having the kids there so we didn’t mind. Just something to note if you were hoping for a kid fee hot tub, I wouldn’t count on it. The food was really good and big servings. We thought it seemed a little pricey until our orders arrived, and I couldn’t believe my burger not only came with fries but a lovely selection of veggies too! All our orders came with the veggies, which was not advertised so that was a really nice surprise. It was tasty too! Being a slow day at the park, they closed the food early. So we were sad when we wanted ice cream at 5 that it was already closed. However, they did announce over the speakers they were closing the food and did a last call for it, but we just didn’t hear what it said. Just a good note to pay attention to the announcements! My husband and I traveled from Victoria, with my brother joining us from Vancouver. They have a free shuttle that picks up from the ferry terminal that takes you to the waterpark which was awesome! Overall it was an absolute blast of a day, we had so much fun! Rented a locker for our valuables and set up a nice spot on the grass for our towels and stuff so we had a spot to go to, to just hang out and meet. As adults, it definitely was enough water slides for us. It was the stairs that really got us. And we could see bringing our nieces and nephews here as they would absolutely love it. A super fun day to do something different and we were glad we could go on a weekday when it wasn’t as hot out as well, because we had almost no lines for all the slides.

Could have been a 5/5, instead a 3 - almost a 2. here is why. I'll start with my complaints:

CONS

Food Service We had packed an awesome lunch. Got to the gate to find that they do not permit outside food and drink! Ridiculous! You come for an entire day and they expect you to only eat the deep fried unhealthy food. Both Cultus Lake and Bridal Falls water slides allow outside food. When you are already paying $120+ for a family and parking, you should be permitted to bring in your own meals. This is enough of a problem for us that we may never come back.

We try to eat healthy. I don't want Butter Chicken Poutine and Pizza for lunch. The funny thing here is that I may have bought Fries to go with my healthy packed lunch but the fact that we had to leave our lunches in the car irritated me too much to even do that. They actually lost a food sale as the result of the no outside food rules. Almost rated 2/5 stars based on this alone.

Water The water, specifically in the kiddie areas, was full of sand and needed a serious cleaning. I would expect them to clean the pool bottoms daily. Looked some some algae possibly on the bottom near some of the kiddie slides.

Slide Condition Most of the slides seemed fine, but the orange one in particular was rather scratchy where the paint is peeling. I noticed a few rough spots on the Kamikaze slide as well that felt uncomfortable sliding over.

PROS This place is not all bad though.

Crowd We went on the Sunday of the Labour Day Long Weekend (2018) and it was fairly quiet. Lines were very short, lots of room. I am not sure how busy it usually is so this may not be the normal, but was great for us on this day.

Kid Friendly The kids area is quite good, and even the bigger slides are not too bad for kids. Our 6 year old went on most slides. As I get older I find I don't want crazy fast, jarring, aggressive slides. These ones are good by my standard, but if you are looking for some extreme Adrenaline, you may not find it here. Cultus lake may be better. For us the slide speed etc was perfect

Pool Area It was great that they had a small swimming area. It seems that few waterslides offer a place to play in the water where you are not in the way of the sliders. This was a very nice plus especially for our kids.

Staff Our limited staff encounters were good. Staff was friendly and no complaints there. The aggressive bag check at the gate was surprising though - are they looking for bombs? At least they didn't make me take my shoes off!

Nuetral Notes These items did not impact my score of 3/5. Just a few notes

Music A little loud for our taste. The music was pumping pretty good. I don't mind some background music but it was a little much. I could see a lot of people, especially teens, loving this though

Water Temperature Temperature of the water was good. Some places have quite cold water. This was cool, but not cold.

Pay Parking It is no surprise to have to pay for parking these days, but when you are paying nearly $30 a person to get in the gates, the extra $5 for parking is a real kick in the face. If they are worried about people parking and going elsewhere, then you can still require the license plate registration but don't...

Title: "An Absolute Nightmare - Avoid at All Costs!"

I don’t even know where to begin. If you’re thinking about visiting this water park, STOP and RUN in the opposite direction. Our experience was nothing short of a complete disaster.

We had booked this place two weeks in advance for a large company outing, paying for everything upfront, including food. You’d think with that much notice, they could manage to prepare for us, right? WRONG.

The first thing we encountered upon arrival was utter chaos. The entrance was a war zone—people were literally lying on the ground, covered in gypsum, some clearly in shock, waiting for an ambulance. The park seemed to have turned into a makeshift hospital. The staff? Nowhere to be found. The only thing missing was the horror movie soundtrack, but trust me, the screaming and crying provided more than enough of that.

But it gets worse. Despite having our reservation confirmed and fully paid for, we were denied entry because the park was "overstocked" and at full capacity. We were forced to stand in a long line with people who hadn’t even bought tickets ahead of time. The fact that we had pre-booked meant nothing to them. We waited for hours, only to be told we might not even get in at all. It was beyond infuriating.

Once inside—yes, after hours of waiting in line for something we’d already paid for—things only got worse. They had no record of our reservation, even though we had receipts and email confirmations. They acted like we just showed up unannounced. After a solid hour of arguing and getting nowhere, they finally "found" our booking but told us that the food we paid for in advance was somehow "unavailable." They offered us leftover cold fries and half-cooked burgers as compensation. Seriously?!

The slides—the supposed highlight of the park—were a death trap. The water was murky and smelled foul. The lifeguards were more interested in their phones than in keeping people safe. We saw multiple accidents, including one poor soul who clearly broke a limb going down one of the slides. No one seemed to care.

To top it all off, the bathrooms were revolting. No soap, no toilet paper, and the stench... I don’t even want to think about it anymore. It was so bad that half of our group left early, preferring to take the financial hit than to endure another minute of this horror show.

If you value your health, your safety, and your sanity, DO NOT visit this water park. It’s not worth the risk. Honestly, they should be shut down. This place is an...
