Beware of Overbilling at Simon Fraser Dental Centre đ¨
I wanted to share a recent experience at Simon Fraser Dental Centre so others in our community are aware. During my latest visit, I was billed for 4 units of services (1 unit = 15 minutes), even though I was only in the chair for 30 minutes. When I questioned the receptionist, it felt like I was negotiating just to be billed accurately! đł
At first, they adjusted the bill slightly, but it still didnât reflect the actual time I spent. After pushing back again, they finally reduced itâthen claimed it was a âprofessional courtesyâ not to overcharge me. Fair billing is not a courtesyâitâs basic ethics! To make things worse, when I said they may have lost a customer over this, their response was a dismissive âokay, thank you.â đ¤Śââď¸
If you or your family go to this dentist, I highly recommend double-checking your bills to make sure youâre not being charged for services you didnât receive.
Update 1: * In their initial response to this review, the clinic tried to frame the issue as âconfusion on my part.â Letâs be clear: there was no confusion. I was over-billed. The fact that their first instinct was to shift the blame onto me only highlights how untrustworthy they are.
Update 2: * Theyâve since edited their reply to remove the âconfusionâ language, which says it allâif it wasnât misleading in the first place, why delete it? They now claim âwe consider this resolved.â Good for them, but that doesnât change the fact that their handling of the situation was unprofessional and evasive. A refund doesnât erase the original problem or the way they chose to respond.
Final Note: * Readers deserve to know the full picture. A dental office that backpedals, rewrites its responses, and tries to quietly reframe the narrative is not one I would trust with...
Update: Anna, the Front Reception Manager at SFU Dental, and I had a great conversation. She listened attentively and genuinely cared about what had happened, focusing on how to improve the situation. We were able to reach a resolution, and I left feeling cared for and confident about future visits. I do believe the staff truly cares about their work and their clients, which is so important when trusting someone with your smile.
While Iâve had good experiences with the dental care at Simon Fraser Dental, one of my visits sat with me and I left me disappointed with the front desk. I let the receptionist choose my next appointment, trusting it would align with my insurance coverage. Unfortunately, they booked me two days too early, and I had to pay for the entire cleaning out of pocket. Had I known, I would have rescheduled for the following week when my coverage applied. After some back-and-forth, they acknowledged the mistake but the refund offered was minimal, which felt disrespectful.
There were other issues as well. My retainer was made too large, requiring a second visit to correct it. I also paid $150 for a brief consultation with the orthodontist, who said my smile couldnât be fixed, yet my new clinic was able to help. Additionally, they said white spots on my teeth couldnât be treated, but again, my new dentist found a solution.
On a positive note, my hygienist was always kind and gentle, and my dentist was thorough, which I appreciated. However, after the costly mistake and moving off the SFU mountain, I decided to switch to...
Read moreWent in for a routine cleanup and checkup and I leave impressed, healthy and clean. So impressed in fact I am taking time out to write a review. Dr Sun and the hygienists were all very professional and courteous. Discovered some dental issues that previous dentists missed and they made sure I am shown the evidence of the discovery so I am informed every step along the way. I've been procrastinating getting my wisdom tooth removed for over 10...12 years. Haven't really found a dental clinic that I trusted enough, but today I think I have. Will update review again once wisdom tooth extraction is done.
Update: the operation was successful! Dr. Sun walked me through the risks and benefits of the procedure before going forward and today she successfully resolved a 10+ years problem for me! They were very gentle throughout the procedure and made sure im comfy throughout the 2 hour procedure. I was pretty nervous at first, we talking 140/98 at 99bpm before the surgery lol, but once it started going, it's like im in a spa but dental, liken dental spa, finishing off the surgery at 120/80, 62bpm. She even offered help via text in case I have any questions during post-op recovery! AND I got to bring my teeth home lol. All in all 10/10....
