BierCraft UniverCity — Restaurant in Burnaby

I met my best friend and her daughter who studies and lives on SFU campus for Sunday brunch, with my son. We had a patio table and the music was very loud, we asked politely for the waitress to turn it lower, and she did. She was very accomodating and nice. However, all 4 meals were below average. The tater tots seem to be a staple in most of the choices on the brunch menu. My Biercraft breakfast was quite awful, scrambled eggs that were overcooked and did not taste like eggs, sausages were stone cold and burnt - even the second time around, it was even more burnt. The waitress did talk to the manager and I did not have to pay for it, but I did not eat even 30% of my breakfast and went to my friend's place still hungry. My son ordered the steak and mushrooms egg bennies, and he said they were ok. My friend ordered the smoked salmon bowl, and again FULL of tater tots (seems they are from frozen). My friend's daughter ordered the avocado toast with shrimps - the jalepeno peppers were sliced very thick and seemed not very fresh, and again, FULL of tater tots. She did not have more than 5-6 of them. We will not be returning again. Service was good, but the quality of food and presentation for the price is not worth us sitting there for over 30-40 minutes waiting for a below average...

I’ve given this place many chances since everyone seems to love it, but the food is actually awful and not to mention overpriced. I can’t speak for any of the drinks because I’ve yet to try any, but the 3 times I’ve been here I’ve been very disappointed each time. Service is really slow, which is understandable because they get pretty busy, but the second I went I barely touched my food (the cajun chicken i think) because it was so bland and dry, the server, it was a blond woman, didn’t even ask if I’d like it or not, so I ordered something else and that too was inedible. She didn’t offer to take it off the bill or even ask me how the food was, I had obviously barely touched it. Even the most basic items like grilled cheese and fries they seem to mess up, the grilled cheese was downright disgusting because it had some weird mystery meat in it and was stale, and the fries were so bland and soggy. I really wanted to like this place but after giving it many shots I can strongly recommended you stay away. Their prices are also awful...

The service is good. Good beer selection on tap. The food is not good. Overpriced. The first time I ordered the tofu scramble on a brunch day I was hooked it was great. I decided to go back. Brunch menu is only available on weekends and I went on a weekday. Because I'm vegan my options were limited. I decided to get the beyond bratwurst which was a weird disassembled idea of a hot dog. I have since tried the jackfruit tacos which are bland and dry. I decided to take some friends, they ordered the fried Mac n cheese and it was dry and no sign of cheese. They couldn't even stomach it. I went back for that golden tofu scramble. I was served something very different than what was on the menu. The tofu scramble should have onions peppers corn black beans mushrooms but instead I got peas and snow beans and corn, how strange. I've never gone to a restaurant and got something different from what's on the menu. It was a completely different taste. I won't be going back...
