Inside Avenue Antiques — Attraction in Calgary

Had to edit my review as I am super disappointed. After recommending this place to so many of my family and friends, and bringing family to show them this mall for years- I had my first bad experience yesterday. I go to this location for a relaxing antiquing experience and I usually take my time and browse, however a total of 7 times I was being watched and followed throughout the store as if the staff assumed I was trying to steal. I come into this shop frequently to buy records and look for Avon glass pieces, however an abnormal amount of staff kept continuously coming up to me, watching me down isles, or asking what I needed. I felt extremely rushed, I was not able to browse the shop as I normally do, and the staff kept constantly asking me questions as if I wasn't allowed to be there. What was normally a fun and relaxing experience for me left me feeling really anxious and criminalized for no reason. I bought two items while at the shop, and the staff kept coming to check what I was looking at or holding. I do not steal, and have been coming to this shop for years to purchase items. It left me feeling terrible, when I normally come to this shop to browse and look for items often. The fact that I was asked that many times why I was there- was so strange to me. I felt rushed, super judged, and uninvited. Other customers were allowed to walk around with items, however a pony toy my daughter wanted was taken from us when she wanted to hold it, a staff member came to retrieve it from us, my daughter has autism and we frequently come here to buy her collectables, but they acted as if we weren't...

My daughter and granddaughter have been coming to this store for years, it's been one of her favorite places to go to in Calgary. Yesterday, they were there to do some browsing and a little shopping but this time, they were treated extremely bad, as if they were criminals! They were being watched, every time her or my grandchild picked something up, an employee would take it away from them, as if my daughter or small grandchild was going to steal something! My daughter and my grandchild have never stolen a thing in their lives!!! This was 100% discrimination and my daughter, who's been a loyal customer there, left there very sad and shocked! My husband and I have been in this place of business a few times, have bought things there, but now, after how my daughter and grandchild was treated, we'll never step foot back into this place ever again. These employees should be fired for how they treat their customers! My daughter even gave you guys a great review on here a few years ago, it's still there! And this is how you treat her??? Like she's some sort of criminal??? I'll just pass the info around to how you treat customers there! This antique shop has a lot of charm and definitely reminds me of some of the other spots we love visiting in different cities. There’s a great variety of knickknacks, vintage toys, and fun finds throughout the store, and it’s clear that a lot of care has gone into curating the space.

That said, we didn’t come across anything that matched what we were specifically looking for—extremely old, rarer items. We've stopped by a few times now, and while it’s always a nice visit, the selection just hasn’t quite aligned with our particular collecting interests.

To be clear, this isn’t a knock against the store itself. Every antique shop has its own personality and mix of vendors, and what doesn’t suit one collector might be exactly what another is searching for. Next time, I may just call ahead to see if they have the kind of pieces we’re hunting for, rather than dropping in and leaving empty-handed.
