I had an extremely unpleasant experience at Kam Han due to the owner's behavior and misleading promotional practices. I do not recommend this restaurant.
Back in May, Kam Han was running a promotion: spend over $100 and receive the same amount in $10 vouchers. There was no fine print, no conditions mentioned—nothing about expiry dates, usage limits, or minimum spends per visit.
My family and I went in May and had a fantastic meal. We loved the spicy crab and ginger beef. Our bill before tax was $120. At the counter when we went to pay, we were told they had run out of physical vouchers, but that they would write my name down with a $120 credit. No one explained any rules or restrictions at that time.
Planning to return, I called the restaurant the Thursday before our next visit to confirm they still had my name on the list. The woman I spoke to confirmed they did, and I asked specifically if I could use the full $120 in one visit. She said yes, so I made a reservation for Sunday.
On Sunday, we went again and had another amazing meal. Our bill was $142. I went to the front, mentioned the credit under my name, and the person at the counter handed me a stack of $10 vouchers. When I tried to use the full $120 in vouchers, I was told that I could only use one voucher per visit, and only if the bill was over $100.
I was stunned. This was the first time I had ever heard of such a restriction. I explained that I had called ahead specifically to ask if I could use the full credit, and was told yes. At that moment, another woman came over—she said she was the one I spoke to on the phone and that she was also the owner.
She immediately became defensive and aggressive. She said it was a "misunderstanding" and blamed it on her English. But then she started yelling at me in English, in front of the entire restaurant, asking “Why would that ever be the deal? How could I run a business like that?”
I was shocked, embarrassed, and trying to stay calm. I simply asked, “At what point was I ever told any of this? When I first paid $120, I wasn’t given a voucher or told anything about limits. I even called to check and was told I could use the full amount.”
But she wouldn’t listen. She just kept yelling at me, louder and louder, in front of customers and her own staff. I was so frustrated I finally slammed the vouchers down and said, “I’m only paying the difference.” She screamed “FINE!” and threw the vouchers back down on the counter.
Then, in front of everyone, she turned around and began screaming at one of her staff members in Chinese. It was honestly disturbing to witness.
She then still refused to let me pay and kept screaming at me. My father came back inside to see what was going on, and she tried to speak to him in Chinese so that she could yelling. I kept yelling at her to just let me pay, and finally after going back and forth multiple times she let me pay. Even after I paid, she continued to scream at me, saying I was banned from returning to the restaurant.
It’s absolutely ridiculous that a business would create a promotion like this, then punish the customer for their own poor communication. Expecting people to spend $1,200 in a year just to use $120 in vouchers is absurd—and not remotely what was promised.
This could have been handled so easily with a respectful explanation. Instead, I was screamed at, humiliated, and treated with zero professionalism. My family had genuinely loved the food and was planning to come back regularly—but after being berated like that, we’re never returning.
The food might be good, but no meal is worth being publicly yelled at and treated with such disrespect. I will never support this...
Read moreMy recent experience at Kam Han was extremely disappointing, warranting only one star due to the poor communication and unacceptable behavior displayed by the staff, particularly the owner.
I had placed a specific request when ordering, asking for half of the soup to be taken out and the other half to be served at the dine-in table. To my dismay, upon receiving my order, the entire soup was brought to the dine-in area. When I politely questioned this discrepancy, I was met with an incredibly unprofessional response.
The lady, who identified herself as the boss, was dismissive and outright refused to accommodate my reasonable request. What shocked me even more was her lack of transparency at the time of ordering. Instead of communicating any limitations, she insisted that her say was final, displaying an arrogant and inflexible attitude.
Attempting to avoid conflict, I calmly questioned why this information wasn't conveyed during the ordering process. Instead of addressing the concern, the lady proceeded to chase me to the door, yelling in front of other customers. This behavior was not only unprofessional but also completely uncalled for, leaving me feeling disgusted and embarrassed for a situation that I was not responsible for.
In conclusion, the poor communication, refusal to accommodate a simple request, and the disrespectful behavior exhibited by the owner made my visit to Kam Han a regrettable experience. I cannot recommend this establishment based on the treatment received, and I hope they reconsider their approach to customer service...
Read morewent to pick up a take-out and was held up for half an hour because the lady at the reception didn't find my order. She questioned my integrity as to why is my order so cheap. I explained I had a coupon from Uber eats, she refused to believe and continue serving other guests instead. In the end, she realized she was looking at other app, of course Uber Eats coupon does not necessarily mean you ordered from Uber Eats right? She had me phone headquarters of Fantuan, another delivery group, for no reason, and 3 numbers she gave me were all out of service. You had one table in there and it was being served by somebody else. I suppose it can't be that busy right?
About a month later on 6/18, the same lady at the reception started making up COVID rules. She told me my party of four has to come from the same household or the police will fine them. Showed her the GOA official site not requiring diners to be from the same hosuehold and she refused to believe. Finally, her colleague let us in.
Extremely snobbish too, that same lady. Big smiles asking another non-Chinese diner if he had Chinese name. When she swang by our table, simply laid down dishes while dropping a few pieces on the table and be like "oops", and walked away. When we asked for water, she poured it so fast, a huge chunk just splashed onto my girlfriend's dress, and walked away, too of course. Dishes are nice, that one reception is too hard to justify a...
