As far as dog parks go, this is a pretty good one. They have a small dog area, a large dog area, and a mixed dog area—which is huge! In the mixed dog area owners tend to cluster around the gates and chat while their dogs play, which leaves the rest of the park open for a game of fetch.
For myself, I don't have a fenced or large yard and prefer to go to the park for a long game of fetch. We've had some negative experiences with other dogs at the park and tend to keep to ourselves. I think it would be nice if they did a long strip down one of the lengths of fence where dogs can play fetch without being bothered by reactive dogs. Or, reactive dogs could still play with their owners!
The location is wonderful as you can walk the trails that surround it. Just remember that outside the dog park, the trails (including Zuckerberg) on on...
Read moreDespite the tinder dry conditions Castlegar is really trying to create a park for everyone in the area to enjoy and it’s a work in progress but when it’s completed I believe that it will be really something! The surrounding pathways are well designed and serve to “warm up” your puppies on leash before “releasing the hounds” in the fenced dog park areas which are segregated by dog size so you can select which area you can let them play, there is also a beautiful beach area where the dogs can also run and play, the area is amply serviced with trash bins and doggy doo bags and as well water is provided for both humans and dogs! It’s well designed with dog safety and fun in mind probably one of the better designed dog parks in...
Read moreA great place to take your dogs off leash! One of few spots to let your dog stretch their legs with a big run. A fenced area for small dogs, a fenced area for mid-large dogs and then an even larger fenced in field for mixed sizes to run and play. Beyond that, along the pathway, there is another offleash area by the beach for doggos to play and cool off in the river. There is a water fountain there with a hose, along with poo bag dispensers. This was an amazing park for our four legged puppers!! Thank you Castlegar for making such a dog friendly environment! The awesome world class public art/sculptures were pretty...
