Surviving the Zombie Onslaught: A Thrilling Escape at Containment Breach Z
For the thrill seeker and zombie lover! I recently had an exhilarating experience at Escape City's Containment Breach Z in Edmonton, and I can't stop raving about it. The room is designed as a team-vs-team adventure set in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. My friends and I were divided into two teams, and I played the role of a scientist on the human side in the lab.
The attention to detail in the room's decoration was impressive, creating a realistic laboratory atmosphere. The high-tech puzzles and features added a layer of complexity to the game, and there was a jaw-dropping surprise that truly set the mood for the intense mission ahead. As we raced against the opposing team of zombies on the other side of the blast door, the pressure builds up as you race against the zombies in an intense race to the finish line.
What stood out the most was the incredible engagement facilitated by the game hosts. They not only set the stage with a captivating storyline during orientation but also maintained their characters throughout the game. Their acting was superb, and they even responded in character as we radioed them for hints and assistance. This immersive experience truly had us deeply invested in the storyline.
I played on the human side, and while there were zombie scenes, props gore, fake blood, and body parts, there were no jump scares. The atmosphere was a dark abandoned labratory, not for the faint hearted. The puzzles are on the more challenging side and required a great deal of logical thinking and effective communication with my team. Our group of four successfully completed our mission on the human side, besting the zombies by a comfortable margin. It's worth noting that the human side is the less intense experience with less gore and blood.
I'm planning to return for another playthrough, this time on the zombie side, and I can't wait to see how the dynamics change. Containment Breach Z is an escape room experience that I highly recommend, especially for those with some escape room familiarity. The combination of engaging storytelling, challenging puzzles, and superb acting by the game hosts makes it an...
Read moreThis review is from someone who does a lot of escape rooms, so likely flavours my response. Really want to give the place 5 stars but unfortunately can't due to a major puzzle piece not functioning, and while they were quick to jump in, it was disappointing that a major gimmick didn't work.. If I could give 4.5 I would, and I may change this review based on the other rooms if we go again
Minor Spoilers and lots of details ahead, this is written to be read by owners, but reading this would not spoil any puzzles. We did the Starship Minerva room, staff were great, the room has great aesthetics, and theme, loved it the puzzles were solid too. The projector screen to represent the AI was great, and the 'actor' for the ai was excellent.
Thing that hindered my experience to a 4 star: (4.5 if I had option on google) The mechanical arm didn't work, this major piece was rather sad, as it definitely would have been very fun. This working alone would have given the 5th star. The staff was quick to intervene realizing it didn't work, troubleshooting quickly. This may feel unfair as it is not really anyone's fault but ultimately it did sour the experience a fair bit since that piece would have been an excellent sequence and we did feel like we missed out. It felt like watching a movie and then the audio cuts out for 15% of the movie, and at an important part, sure you have captions, but your experience is hindered. Maybe an apology discount code for an alternate room would be a good policy in instances such as this?
Recommend more advanced troubleshooting steps available to staff, as the staff seemed to not really have a way to try to fix the arm (The magnet worked however).
Small recommendation, this room felt like it lacked a finale, it has a great resolution (The reset part was good with the actor) but a red strobelight on a switch +Sound bite, controlled by the actor, to be activated during the final translation sequence if added would be an easy way to add tension for the end, while not impacting...
Read moreThis is strictly a review on customer service. At first, it was very hard to get anyone on the phone. Once I could finally talk to someone, they said we had to book online and pay for 1 spot as a down-payment to reserve the booking, but that the my husband the birthday boy was free. So my son paid for his spot as the down-payment. When they arrived, they made my son pay a second time. Then when the last guest arrived, they told THAT person that his spot was free! WHAT?!? So our family had 2 people attending the party, and we had to pay for 2 spots, meaning our birthday boy did NOT get a free spot... and why on earth did a random guest get the free spot? This made no sense, but I was not there to get it taken care of immediately in person, and the guests had no idea what the arrangement was supposed to be to call them out on it. I have tried to reach out several times since this happened in Sept 2024, and in Jan 2025 still have had nothing but crickets! They do not want to pick up the phone, and do not want to reply to any messages/emails. This makes me very sad to be treated this way, and to think that a business chooses to treat their customers this way. Out of principle, we cannot return to this...
