There is a jumpscare for the one we did that is really good, it honestly gave most of these 3 stars. Street parking was easy to find, it was easy to book, and the host guy we initially checked in with was super friendly. They gave an extra 5 minutes because we were close to finishing, which would be a pretty cool move for some groups. All in all the place in general seems like a fun one, not seamless or perfect but certainly a decent place to have a fun memory with friends/family. Lots of combo lock style puzzles.
We came for the 'Let's Play a Game' room. One person in our party hadn't done an escape room before, but two were experienced with dozens under their belts. The decorations were nice but they forgot to put a key element in the room and it slowly turned the whole thing into a bad/frustrating/unintuitive time as we worked our way through without the missing piece.
One of our players is experienced with the standard no-name Dudley locks and couldn't get the one open (though had no problem with the final lock, which is the same twist order...), and the hostess made it definitely seem, whether intentional or not, like it was just our mental ability to open the lock? Instead of them needing to replace an obviously faulty lock that is known by highschoolers all over for how bad they are and how fast they break, causing you to have to get the janitor to cut your lock at school? It was very very immersion breaking.
They were very heavy with hints (they did make it clear they would nudge us along to let us experience it all, but I didnt realize they meant literally hand us the win, which honestly is a worse experience than just losing.... I get you want to show off the hard work but I also came here for an honest challenge and it wasn't from the start, which made us care less and work with less vigor because in 0.3 seconds we were going to have someone over the speaker... We made sure the hint switch was down but kept getting interrupted.)
The two experienced playing really liked Casino Heist way back when, and they were pretty disappointed with this experience. One of them has done recent rooms here and liked some of them, and the other hadn't done rooms here for ages but both thought this one would be more complex than it was, and less forgiving. Not sure what happened but it can't hold a candle to the other business we went to for the Holidays, and I don't think I'll be spending money here again because there are better places to go for me (though if someone else paid, it is still good enough I'd probably still go if that makes sense?). It's kinda what you get when you choose the cheapest in the area and I'll learn that...
Read moreI have done several escape rooms both at Alcatraz and with other escape room companies, but It is always a pleasure coming back here! The staff are so friendly and from the moment you walk in, you are surrounded by fun! From the ping pong table to the wall of board games, even the waiting area has games and puzzles. The Secret Society room was great! I loved the theme! I love feeling like I am getting my money's worth and I definitely felt that in this room as there were so many interesting puzzles and locks. Without giving too much away, I loved the way you unlocked different puzzles in the room using more than just keys and lock combinations. We had 4 people in our group, one person was a first time escaper and she did very well and enjoyed it! It was a room great for beginners or gave experienced escapers a good challenge. We ended up escaping with 8 minutes to spare which was fun! I would definitely continue to visit Alcatraz Escape rooms as there is always a new mystery waiting...
Read moreMy husband and I often do escape rooms and love them for date night. We decided to try the Worlds Strangest Little Room here. I hate to say this, but it was so bad for over $80. It was 1 room, most of the stuff was broken, multiple puzzles did not work and they kept giving us the same hint through our walkie talkie which we tried but the puzzle was broken so it didn't work. At one the worker even gave us the wrong hint...worst one we have been to out of around 20... very disappointed to spend so much money on such an experience. They had to pause once to stop the game and fix the puzzle then added like 10 minutes to our time... I have never been to a place like this and unfortunately won't be back. Had they realized how broken it was and gave us a refund I would have not wrote this review. Be aware and go elsewhere, so many better escape rooms...
