I’ve been here on multiple occasions as I work closely and I have found the staff to be relatively rude almost every time I go. I wanted to give it one last chance a couple of days ago as I wanted something cool in this crazy heat we’ve been having but it was the absolute worst experience I’ve had here. I used to work in a smoothie bar myself, one very similar to Heal, and I am in disbelief of the way some of the staff treat the customers. From the get-go, on this occasion, the person working the cash did not seem to want to be there. I ordered a smoothie bowl but asked if I could sub out the coconut for anything else. She replied “you could just have it without coconut” to which I kindly said that I would rather sub it out if that’s possible as I am paying for it. She then very bluntly told me that I could have bee pollen instead to which I agreed. Then she proceeded to charge me for it to which I declined and asked her to just take off the coconut and leave it at that. When my order was finished, she called it out, turned her back and ignored myself and the person I was with who had ordered as well. I wasn’t sure if the napkins and spoons were help yourself but she straight up had her back to me to talk to the other staff so I went ahead and grabbed them. No thank you, no goodbye, nothing. Again, I have worked in a smoothie bar and would have never spoken to a customer in that manner or have been so unwilling to make a simple substitution like that. When you are paying that much for something, feeling like you are a nuisance to the person working for merely existing as a...
Read moreThis place is really nice but considering I usually opt for local and organic food most of the time, I am very used to spending more money on my food overall, and I found this place excessive in terms of price. I paid $16 and change for the Blue Magic Bowl and it was delicious, but $16 delicious? It was basically a bowl of yogurt and fruit. If you go to Planted on John Street (which is vegan and gluten free) you can get a very hearty (and hot if you choose) main meal, a side of something and a cookie for dessert for $20 and change. You’ll also likely get it faster then you will at Heal as the speed of the bowl making was rather slow and I went in on a weekday around 10am. Yes, I appreciate that different establishments offer different things and yes, if your thing is yogurt-esque bowls and smoothies and you don’t mind the price, this place will get the job done. It’s clean, what you get tastes really good, there is a dog place (I didn’t go back there) in the back, free wifi and the coffee is great. So, make your own decision on whether it is worth it or...
Read moreThe place is cute, I went this past weekend with my friend and I liked the style of it, I liked the promise of meeting dogs. But the menu and how it was handled made me never want to return. I found the bowls to be overpriced for the quality I'm getting. I found big chunks of food and ice in the yogurt from what I can imagine is from not blending it well enough. I watched them make two drinks and they didn't sanitize the steaming wand between different milks, which is a big violation. But the biggest one of all was the lack of consistant glove change, gloves in general and the rinsing between uses. It didn't look like they had any cleaning stuff behind the counter than the dish soap I saw. So if I had any allergies, I'd be out of luck. I think the idea is cute but they really need to step up on food prep before someone...
