Over the years, I've heard people ranting and raving about how La Luna has the best shawarma in Hamilton, so being a Shawarma lover, I had to check them out.
Once we were seated, the server returned after a few minutes to take our drinks, and when I asked what beer they had, they said that they don't serve alcohol, Which was odd because we saw they had a bar...When she came to take our order, the two of us ordered the Chicken Shawarma plate. I had the fatoush salad as a side, while my mother had the lentil soup. When the sides arrived, they were decent. My salad was fresh, with oil-based dressing topped with deep fried pita chips. Once our main course arrived, the roasted veggies were very moist and tender, topped with a tomato based sauce. Very flavourful, and the onion fell apart in my mouth. I haven't had anything like that before. The rice was good and seasoned, and while I'm not one for Hummus, it was alright. There were pickles on the hummus, which were very crisp and had a nice bite to them. What I was disappointed about was the chicken! It was dry and somewhat flavourless, and it wasn't until I was half way finished it before our server came over with the Toum (garlic) and hot sauce! I would expect that would've come along with the entree! Also, the portioning of my plate was odd. The hummus took up an entire quarter of my plate, and the veggies were on the other quarter, leaving two (smaller) quarters of my plate for rice and chicken.
Overall, while the salad and pickles were delicious, and the roasted veggies were interesting, when I'm paying over 30$/plate (before tax), I would expect the chicken to be better, or at the very least to give me more chicken. while I would say that some of the items I ate were delicious, overall, there are better shawarma places in Hamilton that charge half as much. My mother described our experience as disappointing and unremarkable. I would describe La Luna as overpriced and overrated, and maybe they should consider rebranding as a vegetarian restaurant.
Next time I'm craving shawarma, I'm going to go back to Cedars. IMO, they're still the best...
Read moreA couple of weeks ago my husband took me out to lunch at La Luna to celebrate my birthday. We use to go there often, but hadn’t been in a couple of years or so. Boy! Were we both ever disappointed in both the hospitality, and food. First of all, they forgot to give us menus, so we sat for about 10 minutes patiently waiting for menus. Not a huge deal though, and could happen to anyone. However, we both ordered the chicken shawarma plate, which has always been our go to choice on the menu, and we were quite disappointed. Once having placed our order, they returned to our table to inform us that they had run out of rice, but would substitute the rice with extra vegetables, which we found to be odd, but was okay. It’s like an Italian restaurant running out of pasta! This should not have happened. That should have sounded the alarms for us right then, and there. What we were the most disappointed about though, was the taste of the food. Or should I say, a lack there of. The shawarma did not have the authentic delicious taste like it should, and what once kept us coming back to this location. It lacked in the essential spices that makes chicken shawarma taste so delicious, and it did not come with the delicious garlic sauce and the kalamata olives, which they once used to garnish their hummus. It seemed as though the person preparing the food was not very familiar in knowing how to spice, and prepare shawarma. It was as though a foreigner was trying to authenticate a staple dish from a country, that they had absolutely no knowledge of. They lacked the ability to replicate, and capture the savoriness as to what makes that particular dish so delicious! It neither looked, or tasted like the way it once had. I felt gypped that my husband paid $60 for such a disappointing meal. We have eaten shawarma at other establishments, and have left feeling satisfied. Unfortunately, I can no longer say the same for this place. Definitely not worth the money. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this...
Read moreFriends purchased a gift certificate for me after my mother passed away. When I attempted to use the certificates, the owner came out and told me the certificates were not signed and would not honour them. I explained WHY I had received them and was shocked at the lack of sympathy demonstrated. Confirmed with friends that the certificate was purchased at lunch time from a waitress in the establishment. Definitely won’t be back to this location (as I understand it, all locations are owned independently)
Update: While the food is simply amazing, the customer service at their Concession location could not possibly be worse!!! I received a gift certificate from some friends for a family meal after the passing of my mother. When I initially attempted to use the gift certificate, I was refused as somehow the gift certificates had not been signed. The friends who purchased the gift certificate on my behalf had to return the restaurant to have the gift certificates signed. I returned then to use my gift certificate and explained that I had been refused due to their error in not signing my certificates. The waitress who had made the error was apparently the one I was speaking to. Instead of an apology, she was incredibly rude saying, “I had thirteen tables that day”. I understand it can get busy and honestly don’t fault the server. The business itself had two separate occasions to offer an apology for their error and did not. Instead, they were completely rude, even knowing the reason I had received the gift certificates. I was completely disappointed in their lack of concern and complete disregard for their customers. If you value good customer service in the least,...
