Date of Visit: May 11, 2024 A fun, and interesting museum dedicated to the history & heritage of the Mississippi Mills area. While on a little day trip to Almonte - we decided to check out the MVTM. The Museum entrance is by a donation of your choosing.
The museum showcases artefacts, history, and culture of the town and the industry that made them famous - textile mills. There is a special exhibit going on right now - where you can interact with the knitting & fabrics. This is a nice little museum worth visiting to learn a little more about the town, and the industry. There is plenty of parking in the back of the building.

Cute museum in an old mill - worth visiting for the building itself actually. Interesting permanent exhibit upstairs about the history of the area mainly around the textile industry unsurprisingly. Temporary exhibits come and go there wasn't one when we visited which was a shame but it was a random visit so c'est la vie. Probably allow an hour max unless you really want to take your time. Entry is by donation through cash or card. The small gift shop has some good quality items as well so it's worth checking that out before you leave.

This small museum is a must-see in Almonte. The shops and restaurants are fun, but the museum really explains how the mills, which supported the town, operated. And at what cost to the men, women, and *children* who worked there. In addition, they have an amazing exhibition there now, Among the Garbage and the Flowers. It is fabulous textile art, made by women artists, from repurposed materials. It's first rate and I'm not sure that it's going to be there too much longer-- so go see it now!

Michael is more than just a caring curator of a local museum. He is an engaged community member of Almonte and the wider Canadian community. The Mississippi Valley Textile Museum generously supported the local event, Reconciliation Through Art, at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum, Sept. 30, 2024 - an event that answered many of the 94 Calls to Truth and Reconciliation. This events connected the predominantly non-Indigenous community with Indigenous Visual and Textile Art, Music, Performance and Teachings. Many thanks to Michael and the whole Mississippi Valley Textile Museum Team. You went above and beyond and showed the real spirit of...

The museum obviously has inadequate support from the town itself: the main site was bought by a condo that has been allowed to close off access to most of the river and falls that powered everything, and maintenance of the one historic building that the Textile Museum has seems to be soaking up all the funding they can get. They are doing the best they can with what they have: some wonderful old machinery, and honest posters that clearly present the stranglehold that the mill had on the town economy and the prevalence of child labour during...
