I do not like to leave negative reviews, but my experience at North Market was a bad experience from poor service, the waitress didnât know anything about the menu, to expensive tasteless ice cold food. My girlfriend and I have always wanted to try this establishment as it has a cute atmosphere from the outside, but our experience was nothing short of that. We ordered 5 different dishes and were given the option to have them all brought out at once or individually. We opted to have everything brought at once expecting the individual dishes to be delivered as they were prepared. Let me tell you, every dish came straight from the fridge to the table ice cold! Half the Oysters were not removed from their shells, bits of the shells were left on the oysters, there were no condiments or a lemon offered with the oysters and when asked for a lemon, they didnât have lemons! The mushroom dish we ordered was cold, the mushrooms were soggy and unappetizing along with the other dishes we ordered. We cannot recommend this establishment as the dishes look nothing like advertised on their sites or on their instagram page. North market also sells wine by the bottle, expect to be charged an additional $20 corking fee when ordering a bottle of wine from them! Corking fees are applied when a customer brings wine in from the outside, not when purchasing a bottle from an establishment thatâs sells it! There are other establishments in Almonte that offer excellent profession services with amazing dishes that are easier...
Read moreVery reluctant to leave anything but a positive review, but our visit June 17 was a bit uneven. We wanted a late lunch, and were warned that the kitchen closed at 3. Understood but a bit intimidating. Our Turkish eggs and breakfast sandwich were very nice and although the Shrimp Tartine was very tasty, the salad greens were yellowing and definitely not fresh. Tea was a tea bag in a cup, coffee was OK. The person who took our plates away looked at the only thing remaining on any of our plates - the yellowed salad greens and left without comment. It would have been great to have had some acknowledgment but the same person arrived with the bill. Again no reference to the greens. This is not a 4 star restaurant and I do not expect that level of service from a small town cafe but it would have been much appreciated to have had some recognition of something relatively minor but annoying. Nevertheless we tipped. $93.00 was a lot for us for lunch. Parking...
Read moreRustic but upscale shop/cafe that sells a variety of sandwiches and similar plus sweet things and good range of drinks on the cafe side. Lots of often local or localish items for sale especially wine (definitely the place to come if you're a wine lover) but they also have beer and 2 farmgate hard ciders. Fair amount of other high scale food items including some canned and frozen meals.
Coffee was very good on a par with OVC or Equator I'd say and the Moroccan Stew was excellent though portion isn't large it's a good size for lunch for most people I'd say - it was $14 so reasonable price wise. Obviously it's not a cheap place especially some of the shop items but nowhere like this is and the quality is obviously high so up to the individual if they think it's worth it but definitely worth a visit. Service was also friendly...
