Words cannot express how disappointed my wife and I are with a local restaurant here in Almonte. We have been part of the town and community for 5 years and have always felt that it really is - The Friendly Town. Unfortunately, that is the furthest from what we experienced at Mill Street Crepe Company from its owner, Wendy.
My wife and our two boys (2 and 5 years old) stopped in for lunch. My wife is also 2 weeks away from having our third child; and, we thought it would be nice to enjoy a local spot for lunch on the weekend as a family of 4.
We ordered with the server - who I had no issues with. And, we enjoyed our food and time as a family.
During our lunch, my 2 year old fell and started crying (my wife and I consoled him and got him to a happy medium). However, that is when things seemed to take a turn for the worst. The owner came out blasting my wife and I for allowing our child to cry and disrupt the rest of those dining at the restaurant (….the place was empty except for 2 other tables with guests who gave no mention or gesture that they had any issues). The owner (Wendy) looked as if she couldn’t contain herself as she squatted at us while we got our kids ready to leave (at this time we had already paid).
Initially, I felt as if what was going on was a joke…that they couldn’t be serious since there was nothing we were doing wrong; and, we were already leaving. Yet, she kept freaking out as if we were a pack of teenagers who had made a mess of her space. We were dumbfounded, shocked, and mostly disappointed. Especially since this is no way to treat anyone - particularly pregnant with young children.
I will never recommend Wendy and her restaurant. And, I caution anyone who thinks of dining at this establishment - as you might be the next batch of patrons to be put in the same position.
Wendy (the owner) chose to lash out at a family of 4 (soon to be 5) in a VERY family-friendly area at the end of a lunch outing…..I have to wonder what she thought she was going to accomplish or gain in behaving that way so publicly.
Anyway, consider...
Read moreI wish I saw the one-star review from a month ago before eating here because that’s exactly how we felt (the one that starts with “utterly disappointing”). The whipped cream had no taste, the cream of mushroom Soup was so bad I could only stomach a couple of spoons and left the rest on the table, the one waiter had not tried so many of the items on the menu (which is also telling), and overall the ingredients for the savoury crepes did not seem fresh and were bland. The reason I decided to post a review, however, is because one of the waitresses argued that the experience of my 8yo and myself was incorrect. I ordered two chocolate milks for my 3yo and 8yo kids and my 8yo said it tastes wrong. I tried it and indeed It smelled sour, it had a yellow tinge, and tasted sour. They tried to fix it by pouring another two glasses but it was the same. We had to send it back and did not end up having drinks for the kids as I did not want them to have an upset stomach. Instead of apologizing for the experience they argued that four people in the back tried it and it was fine and so we were the ones who were wrong. They put it on the bill and when I was surprised that spoiled milk that wasn’t consumed was being charged they argued again. Honestly, if they had good customer service I would have left a good tip just to empathize with the fact that being in the restaurant business can be hard when product is not good, but since they argued and put it back on us I had to leave this review and gave no tip. I have to wonder how refined the taste buds are if the people in the back think potentially bad milk tastes good. Explains why the other items were so bad too. Never returning and...
Read moreAll I wanted was crepes for my bday. We went to this store and ordered. The staff made a simple mistake. She assumes I wanted a salad added instead of the soup and salad combo. When we got back to our car we noticed that we only got a small salad and soup. Thinking we ordered more then that I went back in. The cashier admitted her mistake and when I asked for a refund she said of coarse. I was kinda turned off the food a bit by that experience. I just wanted my money and to go so I can still get some food elsewhere. As I was getting my refund the cashier offered to let me have the food still. I ask if she's sure cause I'm getting my money back. She said it fine cause they were just going to through it out. I offered to give her a tip from the refund but she declined it. I walked back to my car. While we were getting ready to leave and find somewhere else to get food since that wasn't enough in the first place one of the staff left the building and approached my car. Without a mask. When I opened my window she reached in the car and grabbed the bag of food I was holding. Saying we returned it and being very rude. I was stunned. I didn't know what to think of that. When we went back in to talk with them, cause that isn't how you treat people, I was accused of stealing and while the staff asked customers right in front of us if we were bothering them. The one that we believe to be the owner was rude, disrespectful, inconsiderate and downright offensive. A simple apology was all we needed. By that point we didn't want the food just to be treated with respect like a fellow human being. This was my first time in almonte. Dont think...
