Great Park For Free Adventure My wife, son, and I came to Niagara Falls on a weekend excursion from Ottawa (Aug 26 2023). We always visit same old landmarks of the region so I wanted to try something new. Reason I gave this place a 5-star is because Parks Niagara made it possible for visitors to descend all the way down to the Niagara River whirlpool in a safe way. One gets to descend on these very steep wooden staircases and then walk through narrow challenging trails. So long you use common sense and refrain from doing crazy stunts we found this challenge very rewarding (we knew the risks involved). To find the path, you can park across from the whirlpool restaurant, or the small parking lot south of that but this is usually filled up. From your parking spot, you want to head south on the walk/bike trail. You will pass the upper whirlpool trail until you come to a bike rack and a sign for the whirlpool. The path down is marked with a purple and white swirl symbol on the trees. It is about 189 steps down and then a small hike to the pebble beach.
