A beautiful spot that I discovered by wandering around Oak Bay. It appears to be a quiet & friendly neighborhood. Esplande Road fronts the beach for about 2/3 of its length with a turnaround at each end. There are various styles of homes on the far side of the road that face East to view the beach, some gulf islands, and the mainland. Willows Park is located about 250 m from the south end of the beach with washrooms, picnic tables, and grassed areas for activities. The beach itself is slightly curved and has a bowstring length of approximately 900 m. The sidewalk has several access points and short stairways to access the beach where a variety of different driftwoods have collected. You can easily hop down to the beach from the sidewalk if able. Past the driftwood are beautiful sandy areas and strips of gravel that the ocean has exposed over time. 3 or 4 old concrete drains run perpendicular to the beach and appear to discharge underwater, where the ocean floor slopes gently downwards, about 100 m offshore. They are certainly noticeable, but don't take very much away from the experience. Overall, Willows Beach is lovely for casual strolls, family outings, etc. The beach is great for keeping dog(s) entertained with tons of driftwood and doesn't appear to have any muddy or dirty areas where your pet can really make a...
Read moreMy elderly dad & I was there for the first time just before the Thanksgiving ling weekend. We are from Vancouver and the neighbourhood and the beach were somewhat different in a sense that it felt more pure and clean. Maybe because the weather was so perfect and there weren’t many people and quiet so it made our experience so wonderful and memorable. We will definitely go back there in the future. On the side note, there are some shops a few blocks just up on Estevan St. from the beach and walking down on that street was also very relaxing and nice. We stopped by at the corner bakery, “Ruth and Dean” and their Chai late (with almond milk) was so delish! If I wasn’t so full from lunch, I would have tried their cakes and baking goods but decided to save for the next visit. You might want to check shops around there as well. For those who wants to use transits, we took #2 bus from DT. We wanted to take that double decker bus tour for tourists, departing from The Empress Hotel but they were closed between Tuesday and Thursday so we had no choice but to use the BC transit bus which turned out to be perfect and saved us about $70 for two!! (The red double decker bus tour is $80 each...
Read moreFrog Beach, at the intersection of Esplanade and Estevan Ave in Oak , is a pleasant and popular beach. This beautiful beach offer incomparable vistas and it boasts the best sunsets too. Willows Park is within easy walking distance with a kids playground and a public washroom.
Frog Beach is one of the smallest beaches in Victoria. It's actually a very easy access from the parking to the beach. There are not many parking spots but the parking is free. You can also park away from the road and walk to the beach. Many enjoy kayaking and paddle boats here when it is calm. Another interesting feature of the beaches in Victoria are the logs that are placed intermittently throughout the beach. This allows sun worshippers a place to sit or lean up against a log, and offers some privacy as well.Kids would love this place
This beach has no concession stand or change rooms but the public washrooms are just 2 mins away . Pets are allowed in this Beach and many visitors bring their dogs. But it's much better if you walk through the beach to get the full effect of the ocean smells and views. In short, an easy access less crowded beach for family which is...
