We had the unfortunate experience of dealing with the Front Desk Manager. We were there Friday, May 2, 2025 for the Jay Leno Show. We checked in at 3ish and dealt with a WONDERFUL check in person. She said we were in a smoking room and I mentioned I had booked non smoking (neither my wife or I smoke) and that I made the reservation 3 months earlier (Jan 16th) and would have NEVER have booked smoking. Booking that far in advance there were many non smoking rooms, if you book to close to the show non smoking are hard to get. The nice person apologized and said unfortunately they were SOLD OUT and there were no other rooms. She asked if I wanted to see the manager and I said , ‘no, it’s not your fault and there is not much she could do’….all in all a VERY pleasant exchange/experience. We went upstairs to our room and the smoke stench was simply AWFUL. Anyway we dropped all our luggage and decided to go to the Casino. We came back at ~5:30 and I checked on my iPad for availability that night for non smoking and instead of it saying sold out (I checked upon checked in) it now said there were some NON Smoking rooms , a couple of them. I went down to the front desk and delt with the same wonderful person and showed her there were now some non smoking rooms. She said great and (politely) asked if we had messed up the room. I said no we went to the casino and just had now returned and only sat on the couch, I did mention that we had brushed our teeth once we arrived and had put our tooth brushes in the paper cups in the washroom. She said great, let me get the manager.||||Well, well, this person comes up to me and with her frowny FACE says , sorry were are ALL BOOKED!!! I showed her my iPad with the available rooms. She said sorry but you have been in the room for hours. I explained that we went to the Casino when we arrived and had not used the room and had only sat on the couch. She turned to the person that was looking after us and barked, I’LL BE BACK IN 5. It turns out she proceeded to go to our room. She barged in, STARTLED my wife who was sitting on the couch. She DIDN’T INTRODUCE HERSELF, didn’t say who she was or what she was doing, looked around the room and went into the bathroom, turned around and stomped out of the room, didn’t say bye or everything was okay.||||Down at the front desk, manager returns and comes over to me and barks, YOUR WIFE USED THE WASHROOM! In fact we both went to the bathroom when we got into the room, normal activity after a long drive. She BARKED, I shouldn’t be doing this but will make an exception (still have not seen a smile on her face, not sure she is capable). I explained we had booked 3 months in advance, we are non smokers and I would NEVER have booked a smoking room. She then BARKED, DO YOU HAVE A COPY OF YOUR RESERVATION. I explained I provided it to her staff upon our original check in and they had asked if they could shred it. She said, FINE. I then went to my iPad and found the confirmation email and told her I had a soft copy. SHE SAID. LET ME SEE IT! I showed her and told her , no where in the email confirmation did it say I booked a smoking room. She strolled thru the email and confirmed there was no mention of smoking or non smoking and she actually showed some emotion and said she was SURPRISED. ||||She then said nothing else to me. Punched in stuff on her computer and handed me new keys to a non smoking room. NO APOLOGIES, NO ENJOY YOUR STAY, NO SORRY, CERTAINLY NO SMILE. This person should not be in the CUSTOMER SERVICE BUSINESS and SHOULDN”T TALK TO CUSTOMERS! She needs to take an ANGER MANAGEMENT COURSE!!!!||||Everyone else at the hotel was WONDERFUL AND PLEASANT, we had a great dinner at St Germain and left a 5 start review which the restaurant manager responded already and thanked me for the review.||||The show as great! We were going to come back for the Seinfeld show in November. But the front desk manager EXPERIENCE was so AWFUL we will NOT be RETURNING. Feel free to contact me! NOTHING HAS BEEN EXAGGERATED!||||Thanks for...
Read moreYesterday morning, while riding in a comfortable motor coach trip from Toronto, I went to Casino Rama for the day, returning home from there at 3:30 pm. It had been over six years since I'd last visited Casino Rama to try out my luck on the slot machines. It was necessary to exchange my old card to a new players' card for free which was a quick and easy process, of course. Credit was added to my new card for me to play the slots. I asked all sort of questions (because I'm like that) and the CSR was so gracious, smiling and informative to me and the others from the bus. A lovely welcome to start off this great day! My immediate mission was to buy coffee and a donut at the on-site Tim Horton's. Great way to start my day and my explorations.
It was interesting wandering around throughout the whole HUGE complex to see the changes - the slots and gaming areas, the shops, the restaurants, and the expansive hotel lobby. They just keep improving everything while still retaining an excellent Indigenous culture style to be enjoyed by all. Everything was spotlessly clean, first-class and obviously very well-run and professional.
I was surprised that there weren't more people sitting at the slot machines. Mind you, there were so very many choices and tons of room for people to spread out. Happily, I won money at the slots but shouldn't really brag... (but I am doing so anyway!) I had decided in advance that if I lost money at the slots, then it would be a benefit for the Rama First Nations and that pleased me.
With some of my winnings, I bought a number of beautiful items from the Explore Gift Shop, including a new wrist watch because I'd forgotten mine at home and didn't want to miss the bus at the end of the afternoon. What a beautiful, first-class, well-stocked and interesting store run by the Chippewas of Rama First Nations! I loved it!
There was a second, smaller but just as beautifully-merchandised and creatively stocked store opposite Timmy's. I loved carefully looking at everything in that wonderful store, too, but in the end, I just forgot to go back to purchase the Indigenous-themed artwork that I had been eyeing. I did buy a lottery ticket because it was a way to keep my luck going...
I had brought a book to read in a comfortable sitting area in the hotel lobby but got too busy at the slots, wandering around and talking to others to read anything. I was having fun, after all. It was a day's vacation and a great way to support the Chippewas and an Ontario tourism venue in these scary Trump Tariff days.
Every worker that I encountered in the whole complex was so nice, helpful, gracious and gave topnotch customer service. It was an educational and inspiring trip seeing all of the artwork, reading the signs, seeing what upcoming shows would play in the theatre, etc. I wrote down in the inspiring words of "The Seven Grandfathers' Teachings", which were displayed on a wall, to bring home with me for contemplation.
I felt so happy with everything at Casino Rama, the hotel and everywhere else in the buildings. Of course, I was delighted at my winnings. I didn't really want to leave but had no other choice. Oh, well, spring is here and there will be more opportunities for me to return to Casino Rama. Big recommendation from me that...
Read moreAmazing resort! First time visiting and staying at Casino Rama. The rooms are huge. The decor has a lot of beautiful indigenous art paying tribute to the history of the area. Also appreciated the Lunar New Year 🧧 decorations 🏮
The staff are wonderful from the front desk (checking in and out was easy), to Tom who helped reset the safe that wasn’t working in our room to the maintenance technician who helped relight the pilot light that had gone out of the fireplace because it was so windy that day. The valet staff were also great!
The rooms are spacious (we got the standard king bed room 351) the fireplace makes it nice and cozy and romantic especially in winter and the bathroom has a tub and a stand up shower. The beds and pillows are comfortable and there is a mini fridge to keep drinks cold. Two complementary water bottles were provided which is a nice touch.
We came to watch DWTS 2022 tour. The show was amazing and it is a great venue. A vast array of performers from different backgrounds have played at this concert hall. It was so cool to wonder the halls and look at art the photos and messages from past performers. We bought the entertainment package so we were in the second row which meant we had to look up at the stage the whole show. Although it was great to see the dancers so close you can see the sweat spraying off as they spin, for someone who is vertically challenged, it would have been better to sit in row 5-10.
We weren’t able to get reservations on the premises for dinner so we had to eat in Orillia which is about. 15 minutes drive away. We got reservations at Lot 88 Steakhouse (See separate review on Lot 88 for details). The food choices are a bit sparse as some restaurants have not re-opened since COVID but we were told by staff that they will be reopening soon. Hopefully this will make it easier to stay on the premises for meals if we do choose.
We had breakfast at The Weirs which is in the lobby. I recommend you go earlier. We got there at 930am and was seated right away. By 1030, there was a huge line. Breakfast was very good (See separate review on The Weirs for details).
We spent some time in the Casino. If you join the rewards program, you get a $5 credit on the card so we played some slot machines. We had no clue what we were doing but it was a fun experience.
There is a gym, spa and pool which we did not have the chance to use but plan to the next time we come again as there will definitely be...
