Simcoe Yard House Pub — Restaurant in Ontario

We went on Christmas for dinner. The place wasn't very busy at all. Our waitress didn't come to our table for a good 10 minutes after we were seated. She seemed flustered and wanted to take our food order right away. We wanted to just have a drink for a few minutes first. She took forever to bring us our 3 simple drinks (1 whiskey and 7, two gin & tonics). When she finally showed up with those drinks, I immediately ordered a second round because I could see it was going to take a while. Took our orders, and we waited absolutely forever for our food. I'm not sure how long it actually was, but maybe 30 minutes. In the meantime, our waitress could be seen paying a lot of attention to one specific table of two, she must have known them personally. So she brought our food and then disappeared. We were fine and didn't need anything, but she didn't check on us once during the meal. Again, she visited that one table a couple more times. We ordered dessert and again waited a very long time. The other waiter came over and asked how we were and I said we were fine but still waiting for our desserts. He seemed surprised, and mumbled something about somebody (our waitress? Not sure) being out for a smoke, which I thought was an unprofessional thing to say. Finally got dessert and it was ok. Weird to serve egg nog cheesecake with mango coulis, but whatever. Overall, food was just okay, service was super slow and inattentive, but not unfriendly. The Good The food was very great! My husband and I both ordered different burgers and were really happy with our choices. We arrived on the Friday night of a show and were seated within 15 mins which was pretty good. Our order was taken within 10 minutes and took about 35 mins to arrive. That was a bit long but it was a show night so we had left time for it. The Bad The reason I cannot give the restaurant a 5 is that our server did not check in with us even once after taking our order. She did not once ask if we wanted top ups on our drinks or inform us that our food would be coming soon. She dropped it on the table without a word and without any condiments. We tried to flag her but she immediately began taking the orders at a table for 10 and we were half done eating before we saw her again. Luckily it was a tasty burger that did not need any extra toppings. The Ugly When we finally the bill ( we had to flag her), she was very attentive, standing over my husband as he completed the transaction. He was kind, giving a 15% tip whereas I would have left her $1. I am sympathetic to busy staff who are running around but she walked by our table multiple times looking away as she passed by. This venue needs to have more staffing on concert nights. There were lots of empty tables, but a very long lineup to even get in the door. They weren’t seating people by asking number of guests and they were lots of two people per table options, but we had to line up in the same lineup with large groups. There were tables sitting, empty for long periods of time with food on them, and nobody cleared them in a timely fashion. No busboy and wait staff doing all of the clean up in addition to trying to serve. This is very poorly organized. Also had to wait quite a while for waitress to take our order. I don’t believe this is her fault due to the fact that they had to clean the tables to after everybody is finished. Very slow and even though we got there early, we barely made the concert and actually missed the first two songs. They should know on concert nights that they will have increased people and staff accordingly. At the very minimum they should have a bus person to clear the tables and this would decrease the time between tables not being utilized.
