The Viking statue in Gimli is one of those things you just have to check out if you’re in town. It’s right by the lake, super easy to find, and kind of feels like the heart of the area. The statue itself is huge and really cool to see up close. You can’t help but take a bunch of photos with it, and honestly, it makes for a perfect background shot.

What I liked is that it’s not just a random statue dropped in the middle of nowhere. The whole spot around it is nice—there’s the beach just a few steps away, some local shops, ice cream places, and spots to hang out. It feels like a little hub where both tourists and locals end up.

The statue is also tied to Gimli’s Icelandic roots, which gives it a bit more meaning than just being a fun photo stop. You really get that sense of pride the community has for its heritage, and it’s cool to see that represented in such a big way.

If you’re passing through Gimli, don’t skip it. It only takes a few minutes to check it out, but it’s one of those landmarks that really makes the trip...

One of my favourite statues to show my out of town guests.

Although they added the 'viking park' to surround the statue ( it now has nicer branch seating as well as a really informative history on the backside of the wall - see photo) it is still great for picture taking. There are even stairs that allow you to get up close for better photo-op.

It is located in a quaint Icelandic town of Gimli, North of Winnipeg. It also is right by a lakeside pathway for a short brisk hike to enjoy...

cute place.. BUT! so many.. so so so so so many.. bugs. i’ve never seen so many mayflies. they were flying in my face. when i walked about 300 flew right onto me. went to a gas station down the road. there were mayflies in the washroom. mayflies on the sides of houses. mayflies on stairs. mayflies dead. mayflies alive. so many mayflies. if you want to go definitely go when there isn’t mayflies everywhere.
