The Stockhouse Grill — Attraction in Sault Ste. Marie

I’ve been here about 4 or 5 times, and here is my cumulative review:

The staff and owners are very friendly and the customer service aspect of the table service is great. Although, when the restaurant becomes busy, the low head count in staff and servers results in slow service, especially when large tables in the banquet/party room are filled.

When it comes down to the food, the weekly burger feature creations are ingenious and very tasty combinations. Unfortunately, the execution tends to fail. In each of my visits, the French fries were always slightly undercooked. They always have a very noticeable ‘soggy’ bend when picking them up, as opposed to the desired crunch. As for the burger - the toppings seem to be fresh and do taste good, but you can’t be serving pink beef to the general consumer. On two occasions, my party guests complained of undercooked burgers. The general consumer does not order medium-rare burgers, and the restaurant needs to understand this, as I hope an accidental under-cooking isn’t a common occurrence.

I’ve also had the opportunity to try one of the Mac and cheese dishes. The flavours were absolutely great and matched to the title, but was most certainly microwaved, or left sitting before serving at the very least. Very noticeable hot and semi-warm spot differentiations throughout the bowl and a ‘chunkiness’ to the cheese sauce. Again, may have simply just been sitting for a while, but definitely disappointed.

Overall a restaurant with great potential. If the small issues are ironed out and more patience is brought to the food side of things, it will be even...

A perfectly quaint local restaurant that does everything right!

The food was delivered promptly and served hot. I was able to be in and out all within 30 minutes! They have lots of fun locally inspired dishes in both name and dish construction. I ordered the "Command Room Burger" with an upgraded side of "Coke Oven Poutine". (For those who don't know, those names are inspired by the local Steel Plant and associated Industry in the area)

The meal was fantastic! The Coke Oven Poutine had my mouth watering. I am absolutely going to be ordering much much more from them in the future! (Potentially in the larger "Industrial" sized portions as well... 👍)

They also offer delivery using an in-house driver, which is always great and convenient for the customer!

We were lucky enough to find this place on a recent visit to the area. From the minute we walked in, the staff and owners were super friendly. We were asked if we had been there before and since we had not, one of the owners took the time to give us a complete rundown of the menu options and how they are prepared (which was really great). The portions are VERY generous and the flavor is absolutely amazing. I had the clubhouse sandwich and the pickle poutine and my wife had the cheeseburger with the classic poutine and everything was top notch. You can really tell they use fresh, quality ingredients and take a lot of care and put a lot of thought in the creation and preparation of the food.
