My son and I played some catch and hit the ball around the wide green space in Montebello Park on one of the first mild Spring days of the year. My little daughter quickly tired of this idyllic but somewhat limited spectacle and so ran off on her own to the fairly substantial playground area- it's a safe park, kids can do this here. It'll be in full swing in the coming months, with regular concerts and festivals, and the long, well-stuffed rose garden. Unfortunately, there are always rough characters lingering either on the large or small gazebos or here or there, the park, being downtown, has always attracted it's fair share of weird and wild ones, but it's mainly always peaceful. Read morePerfect place for a picnic and watching the sunset! :-) great playground for little kids, including an extra large kids swing for handicap individuals..and lots of picnic tables! Yes there may be a homeless person or two on the benches, in the corner behind the rose garden, and a few camped out under the Pavilion (lol) but for the most part they're asleep or chatting with their friends. I know most of them and they won't hurt you. The design plans for this park we're by the same individual that did Central Park in New York city. At any rate, this is definitely a place of gathering as there are multiple events that happen throughout the year such as but not limited to: grape & wine, ribfest & even the santa claus parade to name a few. I remember when the whole "Occupy Niagara" thing was going on and there were MASSIVE amounts of tents propped up. You couldn't see a speck of grass.
