My son and I played some catch and hit the ball around the wide green space in Montebello Park on one of the first mild Spring days of the year. My little daughter quickly tired of this idyllic but somewhat limited spectacle and so ran off on her own to the fairly substantial playground area- it's a safe park, kids can do this here. It'll be in full swing in the coming months, with regular concerts and festivals, and the long, well-stuffed rose garden. Unfortunately, there are always rough characters lingering either on the large or small gazebos or here or there, the park, being downtown, has always attracted it's fair share of weird and wild ones, but it's mainly always peaceful. And the addition of a free wifi hotspot, and chess park across the street, make it even more of destination.
