Decent little skatepark in an area that desperately needed one. Seems to be well built as it’s holding up nicely in the 4+ years since it was built. (Although there’s a few wonky spots) the “M” for Malvern built into the big bank was a nice personalized touch.
There’s a serious lack of transition here though. No bowl or mini-ramp. Just a steep quarter-pipe with no deck on top. Very much a “back and forth” type skatepark as it’s long and skinny. I could see this being an issue when it’s crowded, especially with younger kids (usually on scooters) who may not understand skatepark etiquette or the direction of flow.
No lights and the parking lot is a 3 minute walk from the park itself, but now I’m just nitpicking.
Neilson’s got enough to keep a beginner or a seasoned pro busy for a while.
Definitely check this one out if/when you find yourself in West Durham/East...
Read moreSuper cool little skate park, would like to see some clear markings for the sharp inclines and crests which are set at a sharp concrete 40 degrees. Be careful, wear all.gear you think you dont need. And have fun. Enjoy in the day as the evening hours and the lack of proper lighting hinder the activities. (Maybe that's the plan behind it devised by the municipality so the kids go home early? Who knows , it's fun to just get some after sundown chills and chats. Benches lining the sides and on a dry summer day you have the entirety of neilson park to sprawl...
