I recently visited the museum with family and friends. As children and grandchildren of survivors, we appreciated the museum’s long awaited presence here and were thankful for the various staff and volunteers and their commitment to sharing the space and their knowledge. School visits will certainly help this generation in understanding what hate can do to a society. The interactive display of names of survivors was the only area that we felt was confusing as it did not reflect the names of the large survivor community that had settled in the greater Toronto area after immigrating. We searched for names of friends and relatives and were disappointed. We asked and were told that this had been taken from another site. A memorial such as this that is to honour their losses, existence and perseverance, we felt, could have been more inclusive and thoughtfully done. If we’ve misinterpreted the display, we would certainly welcome any...
Read moreSo much history. We were there for four hours and only made it part way. We met a lovely volunteer whose dad was a survivor. Talking with her really put a personal touch, I wanted to hug her. Reading and listening made us realize that more people need to go and learn because clearly the way society is going, they need a reminder. It is very humbling. The one question I can not get out of my head is why? Why would anyone want to do this? I hurt for the people, i marvel at their strength and perseverance. We definitely will be back to finish going through. Our hearts go out to all and we thank you for the opportunity to learn more. History can not be forgotten and more people need to see this museum. There are no words, yet not enough words, to describe how this knowledge has affected...
Read moreVisited this place on a Sunday and absolutely loved it. As a Jewish woman, it was really important for me to visit and expand my knowledge of the holocaust. It was also really important for me to bring my non Jewish husband to help him learn more about the history of my family. The place itself is very clean, the staff were really helpful and kind, and the artifacts were fascinating to look at. It’s still hard for me to comprehend that those items belonged to actual people, many of whom were murdered. I wanted to say a big thank you to the Toronto Holocaust Museum for helping educate people, and while it would be wrong to say that I’ve enjoyed my visit (because how can one enjoy learning about such cruelty) I’ve really appreciate the opportunity to learn more and see all...
