If on several occasions I experienced; poor service, terrible service, rude service! So you might ask why do I keep going back? Well, like a defence attorney pleading before a magistrate: there are mitigating circumstances your worship. In our case two; location and our kids viewing it as an annual "treat" prior to leaving to or returning from summer camp.
The service at Wakame starts with a lengthy wait until you're acknowledged, languish with your order form which often lacks an accompanying pencil to complete it. We had to borrow ours from another table on one occasion. Then once you order wait, wait and wait some more and eventually your food arrives, oh well. At least you get it! Sometimes it's yours and every other order it belongs to another table. Better to estimate how much you intend to consume and fill out as complete an order form as possible. I really do believe that service in this establishment is a foreign concept from another galaxy far far away that they haven't yet discovered!
The aspects of this establishment gone awry are too numerous to list in detail. However, as an act of kindness to future fellow diners, I am compelled to mention the single most heinous sushi crime committed here. Their Saba (Mackerel) should be avoided at all costs. Being a very fatty fish it has a particularly short shelf life... Unfortunately Wakame's offering on several visits exceeded its best before date.
Eat here if you; must or are cajoled by friends and family or happen to be close by. I do understand...Otherwise seek other and far better...
Read moreMy recent visit to Wakame Sushi was better than the last. In previous visits the restaurant had several issues in the quality of service provided by its staff. I'm happy to report that things have changed for the better. My wife and I were served by May, a polite and respectful server. We sat down and were asked what we'd like to drink. Shortly after we received one menu to look at between the two of us. Not long after asking, we were brought another menu. This happens often so don't be afraid to ask if you need another menu. May took our drink food order quickly. The food arrived not long after that (appetizers in 10-15 and main dishes about 5 after that). The food was well presented, tasted fresh and was served at an ideal temperature. May came back to make sure our food was good but gave us lots of time to enjoy our meal as well. Overall the experience was fantastic and I'm glad to see some of the concerns I brought up with restaurant leadership were taken into consideration. One thing to keep in mind is that the restaurant does get very busy and the servers' disposition can sometimes be interpreted as rude when they are simply trying to make the packed house of guests happy all at the same time. I'd recommend coming here during lunch or dinner as there is a wide variety of food on offer as well as an all you can eat menu for kids and...
Read moreI had a very disgusting and disappointing experience at the Bathurst location while dining with my family. A cockroach climbed down from the wall onto our table during our meal. We attempted to discreetly bring it to the server's attention to avoid embarrassing them. She was apologetic and said she would advise the manager. Meanwhile, I think the patrons at the table next to us took notice of what happened and were horrified. They quickly asked for the bill to make their exit. The manager returned and said she would give us a discount after offering another apology. She said they have the place treated for cockroaches weekly! We were taken aback but did not make a fuss. The bill was brought to us and we were offered a 15% discount that amounted to $9.00. We were less than impressed by the gesture and asked if we could also pay by cash that normally allows for 10% off. The server refused to honour their policy and said that we had already received a discount. We have been coming for years because the food was decent and inexpensive. It's not a fancy place but this is no excuse for not having any class, acceptable standards, and a basic understanding of social etiquette when unfortunate situations like this occur. I would recommend against going to this place unless of course you don't mind vermin at your table or possibly...
