The Wild Pacific Trail
Located in Ucluelet on the west side of Vancouver Island.
The Wild Pacific Trail follows the rugged cliffs and shoreline of the west coast of Vancouver Island overlooking Barkley Sound and the Broken Group Islands to the east and the open Pacific. We found easy access to the Wild Pacific Trail, starting from the parking lot off of Marine Drive in Ucluelet. This trail traces the edge of rocky headlands past dramatic views of Barkley Sound and Amphitrite Lighthouse. This wilderness trail has many spectacular views along its entire 2.6 km loop. Part of the loop is tree covered trails with a series of viewpoints featuring unique vistas off the wild Pacific Coast with waves crashing on the rocks below hiking alongside the ocean. It takes about 30 to 45 minute to walk it. Mostly a flat grade along the entire Loop and no stairs on the main route. The new Bog Interpretive Loop or two small beaches are be an enjoyable extension to the loop. We much enjoyed the viewpoints of the great vistas, but strongly suggest to stay on the trail as the rocks are not safe. Please give yourself time to enjoy the views and get some great shots to take home from frequent lookouts. Many have benches if you need to rest. Amphitrite Lighthouse Originally built in 1906 in response to the shipwreck of the Pass of Melfort, it was replaced in 1915 with the current building to better withstand hurricane force storms. Enjoy this iconic sentinel keeping watch over Barkley Sound and the archipelago of the Broken Group Islands. Watch boats and seabirds which change with every season. Over 300 species migrate through the Ucluelet Peninsula. Inspiration Point and He-Tin-Kis Beach offer fantastic views via stairs cut artistically into the headland. When you reach a fork in the trail near km 2 you can stay on the Lighthouse Loop or turn down the hill to visit Terrace Beach Interpretive Trail at the site of an ancient First Nations’ canoe beach. Interpretive signs identify native uses of plants and share a rich history dating back 5,000+ years. Address: Wild Pacific Trail, Ucluelet, British...

Read moreAmazing day walking the Wild Pacific Trail with my family. People still want exercise and fresh air and this is the place to do it. Covid 19 restrictions are in place even though it is an outdoor activity. They want all people that walk the loop to stay in 1 direction only and the have scenic areas to pull off and let faster walking groups to pass. We still encountered defiant people turning around halfway and being rude if the people walking ahead of us didn't move and then give us dirty looks too as they passed by. We didn't make the rules, we just followed the rules. Amazing views all around as we walked, we also found a bog trail. We plan on coming back to try the bog trail loop too, highly recommended to bring a fully charged phone or camera as you will be...
