My family has been to the Ukee / Tofino area annually for 6 years now. We've stayed in numerous different Airbnbs and other vacation rental properties in the area. In general, our stays have been great. There were a few things about this particular property that I would mention to anyone considering staying here:
The pictures were not accurate on Airbnb. The furniture (in particular, the living room couch) was not the same as in the pictures. This was disappointing.
Some of the fixtures are pretty old and outdated. The lamps don't give off much light and the overall "feel" of the unit is very dark and worn out.
There were some cleanliness issues. A number of the dining room table chairs, and some sections of the main floor flooring, were sticky to the touch. Not sure if this was due to something having been spilled by a previous occupant, but regardless, kind of off-setting. The leather couch (as mentioned, NOT the one that's shown in the pictures of the listing) had some food particles / smears on it. The hot tub had quite a few strands of long hair left behind, both on the sides (arm rest areas) on the hot tub ledge, and also in the tub water itself. For two days we would pull a good dozen hair out of the water during our hot tub sessions.......
The BBQ, which deserves its own bullet-point here, needs to be thrown in the garbage. It's rusty. The tank is rusty. The paint is peeling. The grill itself didn't appear to have been cleaned or scraped. Thankfully we don't normally use a BBQ when we're on vacation, but even if we did, we certainly would not have used this one.
The unit smelled a bit strange. I realize these are "cottage" inspired units, but there was definitely a strong musty type odour. We ended up needing to keep the windows open, pretty much the entire time we were there. This was fine because it's summer, but I suspect this would be an issue in the winter.
There were plenty of drywall mud patchings that hadn't been finished. I get it that sometimes guests cause damage and it can't be fixed during a quick turn-around (a guest is checking out the same day a new guest is checking in), but none the less.....
Parking is a problem. We stayed for four nights, Friday to Tuesday. On the weekend, when the resort is busy, you can find yourself in a situation where there is no parking available. The lot is rather small, and borders a public parking area where there is public beach access. We had a smaller car, so we were able to squeeze it into a spot (which I don't think was actually a "parking spot".....), but this was pretty disappointing. When you pay a certain amount for accommodations, you don't expect to have to roll the dice on parking availability.
Value isn't there. I realize that no where does this listing state "luxury accommodations", but it certainly borders on luxury pricing. My family has stayed in "luxury accommodations" in the area, numerous times, and for ~15% more than what we paid here, it would have been well worth the upgrade. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we made our reservations later than we wanted to, and there wasn't a lot of choice left.
That all said, it wasn't completely a bad experience. Ironically, the two bathrooms were meticulously clean - easily the cleanest rooms in the unit. Given the other issues, we were pleasantly surprised about this. The washer and dryer seem "like new", so that was great as well. Early and proactive communication with the staff running the Airbnb listing was great, absolutely no complaints there. WiFi was stellar, not a single issue. The beds, while seemingly dated and springy, are actually pretty comfortable and we all slept very well. The views are stunning - both from the deck and the 2min walk down to the beach and water. I suspect the views are why this resort can ask the pricing that they do.
To conclude - Personally, we...
Read moreThe location is excellent. Outside the cabin you see Terrace Bay. Always calm every time I've been there since it's well protected from ocean waves. |Another bonus is it's about a 5 minute walk to the Wild Pacific Trail, Lighthouse Loop. Highly recommended especially at low tide so you can venture out on to the rocky shoreline where you might find a treasure such as a washed up bouy or some bones from a seal.|The resort is very nice but I'm giving it a reserved rating, hoping that a few suggestions might be helpful.|It is a totally hands off rental meaning from booking online to departing the rental there is absolutely no human contact either via phone or email. |I did try calling the number listed on the website to confirm our rental but it kept dropping immediately. It did make me nervous since when booking the only email confirmation I did get was from an unknown site that only listed the date I booked and never listed the date I booked for.|We were never provided information on how to connect to the wifi so our data was eaten up big time. There were a couple of pages of rules in the cabin but sharing the wifi information was completely overlooked. |Check out was never explained. We thought maybe there was a key drop box where we found the envelope upon arrival near the office.|The only box around was a box of poop bags. Good to have but not what we were looking for.|We noticed a cleaning person and asked where we were supposed to put the key. She said to give it to her. (I hope we didn't give the key to some random person.) |We then mentioned that we didn't have any wifi password where she cheerily stated the user name and wifi. I asked her how were we to know that, where upon a questionable look came over her face.|I would stay again but my initial stay would have been a little less stressful had I known a couple of...
Read moreWe have stayed at this resort several times and always left with wonderful memories and experiences. However, the resort is now quite different as it was sold a few years ago. Our cabin, Sea Star #9, still has an incredible view, and the kitchen and bathrooms have been renovated tastefully. The hot tub is newer as well and worked great.|Now the disappointing parts. As there is no longer any on-site management, issues are difficult to resolve. When we arrived and entered the code to the cabin, the door did not open. We called the phone number we were given and they were not able to resolve this immediately, so we were left standing in the rain with our luggage for several minutes until they phoned back with a different code, which thankfully worked. When we tried to light the BBQ we discovered it was out of propane. Again we made a phone call and that issue was never resolved! Housekeeping wasn't the best. There were cobwebs in the rafters and dirt in the corners of the bathroom. In the upstairs bathroom, when the plug was pushed down to hold the water, bits of black stuff would be pushed out and floated in the water, as if the drain needed a good clean! We also found a baby's soother under the bed!|We don't know if the people at the contact number were in the local area but this disconnect and not being able to talk to people face-to-face has really made a negative impact on the place.|So the question is, does the location make up for the...
