Booked with Reef Point for a 4 day relaxing getaway with a friend. The check in directions were quite straight forward, they sent us a text when the cabin was ready for check in on the day of arrival with the details of how to enter our cabin. The location was beautiful, close to many trails including lighthouse loop that took our breath away! We stayed in the one bedroom cabin that had a hot tub on the porch. It was a bit smaller than we expected but because it was just the two of us, it worked out great. However, if you have more than two people, or children, I would suggest a larger cabin. The layout of the cabin is also very odd, the spiral staircase going up to the bedroom is steep and narrow (so not the best for someone with accessibility needs or older individuals, us ladies in our 30's struggled at night). The staircase is also smack dab in the middle of the living room, and we bumped our heads a few times. We came to Ucuelet to relax, hike, surf, kayak and just enjoy the outdoors. However, if you are looking for a relaxing getaway indoors, this might not be the place for you. The cabin itself has few windows looking out into the bush, or onto the driveway, so no nice views. The cabins are all side by side along a gravel road so at night, we had to close the curtains as people across or beside us could easily see in. There is also very little natural light in the day time coming in. The tv was about 20", mounted high in the corner and far from the couch so watching a movie was very difficult, the speakers in our tv were also blown so the sound wasn't very pleasant. The cabin did have a very basic kitchen with some pots and pans. But if you are wanting to cook larger meals, the space is a bit difficult to move around in. There is a small coffee machine and they did provide some coffee for us, however if you want your own coffee you need to bring coffee filters with you. There is also no oil or salt and pepper so bring that also. Cleanliness.... If you have a dog allergy, do not stay here. Luckily we don't, but there was dog hair everywhere. The dishes were also a bit dirty but other than that everything else was clean. Pros: - close to some beaches and beautiful trails - just minutes away from central Ucuelet and The Blue Room, which has the best breakfast and nicest service! Cons: - felt impersonal, would have been nice to chat with someone in person or even over the phone about the questions we had rather than text, the responsiveness was not adequate. - hot tub is very basic but not the most comfortable as there are no seats, you sit in the ground. - lack of privacy, we could clearly hear the people in the cabin across from us, which means they could easily hear us. - cleanliness, they expect you to wash all the dishes and drive all your garbage down to the bins. They provided us white towels, and noted these are not to wash your face with if you are wearing makeup. If you need towels to wash your makeup off, you need to request that. Leaving remarks: The cabin was exactly what we needed it for, it was relatively clean excluding the dog fur, that was quite annoying. The location was amazing, we really enjoyed the hikes and the beach. The lack of natural light was tough being a vacation and all. We left the cabin cleaner than when we arrived, and bearing in mind costs, I would expect this to be the other way around. I hope this review helps!!

We stayed here for 4 nights in August. While the area is stunning, the cabins (at least cabin #6/F) left much to be desired. For over $325 a night you’d expect at least a decently clean and functional space. The floors were in horrible condition, bathtub tiles were missing and soft in the walls, bathtub jets were black with mould or human debris. The staircase to the upstairs bed was a tiny spiral death trap. Don’t dare try to descend it at night. Couch was stained and pullout mattress was ancient and back-breaking to sleep on. The day of our arrival, mgmt emailed to say our hot tub was broken (one of the actual perks of the cabin) and they would not have a replacement. So that was completely disappointing. At first they agreed to credit us back a measly $25 per day. Then they sent us a text saying because my elderly father stopped over to visit for a night, they would not be refunding us. Overall the stay was displeasing for the price and the only thing that saved the trip was the location. On our walks I found numerous other cabins and rentals that would be much more suitable for future trips. Save your money and don’t waste your time here... or at least don’t book the shanty cabin. *To the owners, maybe use the credit you withheld from us to start an upgrade fund for this unit.

We booked Reef Point Cottages 2 Bed F # 263 back in November for the Easter Long Weekend to celebrate a joint 40th birthday with another couple. Unfortunately we received a rather indifferent email from the management company in January stating that renovations being done to the cottage we reserved would not be complete by the time of our stay. This was a surprise to us as we had stayed in the cottage before and it was in a “finished” condition. Since the management company basically took a “we don’t give a damn” stance and stated that the owners can cancel reservations as and when they please, we assumed they had decided they would rather rent to family/ friends over the long weekend instead. We ended up having to book somewhere more expensive which happened to be just down the road. It was no surprise to us that when we drove past # 263 it was being enjoyed by someone else. No renovation in sight unless the contractors were chicks with surfboards and beach towels hanging over the deck? If you do book a Reef Point Cottage i would recommend having a back up plan. Management don't place any value in honouring your booking. It basically doesn't mean anything. They are pretty open with their attitude of we just don’t care… After all there’s always more tourists on their way!

I am a certified trained Covid-19 compliance cleaner for a large corporation, train by my health authority. Some of the window blinds are difficult to open & close because there were broken ones. :(

Bathtub is not suitable for large people but the rain shower is very nice. (Will find out)

It was extremely extremely cold coming in on January tenth because the thermostat has been turned down to zero and we had to turn it up. So a good hour or two of our first time in the cabin was taken out by needing to heat the place. I feel like that's okay in a one-person operation out in the bush or something like a rustic cabin also I didn't have lunch but for a professional operation with over 20 individual units I really don't feel the quality was there and it just was not welcoming coming into a place that was super cold. I don't feel that the cold has anything to do with COVID-19 transmission: it's just cause we're cutting and fixing to you made us feel like we were here being taken money off of instead of welcome into a nice guest experience where we were valued and our experiences value.

We need to know to safety concern which is that we were given at least one broken glass to drink out of which was sharp enough to cut skin. Fortunately we noticed in time. It was fresh out of a zip tie closed "cleaned and sanitized" bag. I have to tell you that with the high level of covid-19 concern that we have seeing these shoddy, dangerous details really made us worried that cleaning protocols hadn't been followed either even though there were quite draconian policies in place.

when little details like this are neglected and then safety concerns are in place like broken glass I really feel in my bones that I'm not wanted here and I'm just being used for my money and I also get concerned that if my health is really not valued then how good can they really be doing with their COVID-19 protocols.

my partner worries about time quite a bit and they messaged us that they were ready at 2:52 p.m. when we were due to arrive at 5 p.m. Which normally would be all right but it makes us feel like the time very well might not have been spent on cleaning that should have been. Also it means there's no excuse for the heater being off since they were not rushed.

We won't be coming back that's for sure and for  with the motto that "you won't want to go home again" we definitely couldn't wait to go home again once our business here was concluded / slightly worried that we might not be able to go home again if we got sick or injured here.

Also worth noting that there is exactly enough hot water for one person to take a bath by filling the tub once. This is extreme austerity - again fine in a fishing cabin but really out of place for these prices and the expectation that is set of cosiness. Don't waste your hard-earned COVID stimulus here. there are plenty of motels and hotels that are not listed well in Google but the whole town of Ucluelet seems to be made up of tourist housing. You can surely find a place with better amenities and we plan to if we come back.

the barbecue lighter doesn't work and the clock is also an hour and a half behind time 😳

The stove broke and alarm ⏰ went off all morning

These things are all a much less big deal if there was not a pandemic but due to the check-in protocols being that we will not see our hosts and they will not be entering the suite while we stay here we feel completely under supplied not to say neglected and robbed. I mean really! and non pandemic times I travelled through many people's homes and I have never stayed in quite as poorly outfitted or draconian a spot as this one.

Found a random spot of something on the TV remote. Sure feels safe. Yep totally clean, absolutely! TV back was full of dust hence totally untouched. One wonders what else was untouched.

You can see the random buildup of things in the shower head, would be they're only if it was sprayed onto but never wipe down and there is also dust on the towel hanger, and the mirror, both very high use areas in the...

This was a shocking place to stay, pictures showed a clean, comfortable cottage with decent amenities. Hot tub was crazy noisy, lukewarm at best, like a small kiddy pool and murky. Couldn’t turn it off so it was like a machine to the upstairs bedroom. Toilet upstairs started “running” which ran water down the pipes through the walls which was confusing & sounded like a wall leak, baseboards were rusty, floors were sticky as if not properly cleaned. Jets didn’t work in tub. King bed was two twins pushed together with a small cover over the middle- which was an issue as we got the king for three teens to sleep in, was uncomfortable. Overall it was subpar for the price it is at, and advertisement. There was a water leak in the ceiling first night we stayed, dripping on the couch. Told management- they said they’d send the plumber, went out for the day to come back to no sign of plumber or communication from management, told “couldn’t get someone, they’ll come the next day” when we checked out. No one came by to check, no offers of discount or room change etc. we had to move the couch to put a bucket underneath the leak. Told it was probably from dripping off from the shower…not at all. I requested a refund for the trouble & lack of appropriate response from management. I was told I’d hear back in AM. I in fact did not so sent a text to check in, was told to refer to previous msg (there was none) was offered a one night stay refund. Night before I had called booking.com to ask their protocol as I was getting very little from management, was told they’d inquire. Before receiving the refund from Reef cottages, booking put through a request for $90 something… When reef saw the refund request I got a msg that said “that’s what you get for involving booking.com!” So only received that very small pathetic refund and absolutely rude & unprofessional lack of communication the entire time, meanwhile trying to have a birthday getaway for my daughter and travelling home for the day. Overall it was a really disappointing experience and gave a terrible taste to our tofino trip that was a very big ordeal. I wouldn’t recommended anyone to go to these cottages.

Response to Reef:

Not sure why it matters how long It took me to review. While there I was on vacation with 3 teenagers, trying to enjoy our time, the issue took up more of my time & energy than was ok in the first place, I was travelling the next day, on the road for hrs. I responded to first text of the 7:15 one thinking you mean the one from the night prior, I was still awaiting an answer on refund, as your 7:15 text never got to me as I screenshotted you. As for the day off the issue you responded right away, we got back to cottage that evening with 0 communication to what was going on with the issue, and I had to ask what was happening, told no plumber, no offer for someone to come see if the issue is ok, still leaking etc. Because of what felt like very little communication I inquired to booking.com what they may offer, all they told me was they were looking into it, i wanted to cover my basis, as I felt very dismissed so far from your customer service. After not receiving the refund from Reef Cottages, and booking.com getting a tiny refund without communicating to me prior at all, your response was “this is what happens when you involve booking.com!” As if I ever had ill intent. I am a customer on vacation with my kids, wanting to spend a lovely time with them, not dealing with maintenance issues & very dismissive & lacking customer service. The fact I had to ask for a refund in the first place is appalling, there was no offer of anything while there was water coming through the ceiling of our cottage, the fact you are trying to prove I was somehow in the wrong is appalling customer service.

I am not one to write negative reviews, and this warranted one, even 4 months later as you say, and now another 4 months later response as I do not watch...
