The learning aspect of the school is fine. I walked in not knowing even how to get into the industry and now I can providing you get a teacher who cares. That being said, The school administration is a complete joke. Faculty departments don't talk to each other. Planning any event is a pain in the ass. No one listens, and they can't spell properly. They never care to change or improve, even if being told something was wrong.
The Academic advisers have no experience in their field. One even sent designers programming positions and shady $2.00/hr 1 month contract jobs. I've offered better paying, long lasting jobs and I don't even work. The president does not know the difference between a triple A company and an Indie company.
They went out of their way to never tell me why my contracts ended from a job. It's the schools history who has connections to industry people NOT the faculty themselves. They lazily find ways to help graduates like googling design documents and taking weeks at a time to respond to you.
Their courses are totally not worth the 40k+ you're investing and only fuel their ego with being the "4th best school in Canada", which 1) is a lie and 2) they are the Only AI in Canada and sadly it's run better then any American counterpart. They lie about their 90% success rate, which from personal experience is more like 38%. As long as you say you're working post graduation be it McDonalds or a lead position in the industry, they give the school a check mark and never ask again.
They don't care about the quality of students they enroll, personally seeing a student get kicked out multiple times only to be accepted back when he paid the fees. (Which is not allowed by their rules.) They lie about students breaking equipment and charging you for it. Everyone who teaches there is 10 years out of date, where other schools have teachers right out of Pixar or Dreamworks. Some of the programs are not taken seriously.
It seems they care more about the fashion program more than anything. It would honestly be cheaper for me to teach you how to design from home. You'll get better care and knowledge than this school has. Lastly, they mismanage documents all the time. I saw a student get a $2000 grant from the school but they "lost" the document and that student never received the money. This school should be audited for fraud. Nothing will change unless they start losing money. End of story the school and its people suck. -1/10 would not recommend.
Go to Van Arts, VFS or even UBC or BCIT. EDIT: The 11 weeks you have is not enough time to show anything worth being hired. Honestly, take 10 blizzard employees and see what they can make in 11 weeks while taking 4 other classes. This school's standards makes people feel bad and gives...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLike many people, I had no idea what I wanted to do out of school. I worked for a year and then lost my job after the company I was at went under. I was out of work and looking for options. I always liked the arts and after some reps from AI came to my photography class and took all of our information, I had been getting emails from them and decided to look into it on a whim of hopelessness. I felt like my dreams could really come true, to work on movies and be a big shot with my name in the credits. I wanted to pursue 3D animation / vfx.
However, there was one problem. I was horrible at art and had barely any money to begin with.
AI doesn't care what your skills are. They don't care what your financial situation is. They took everything I had to get me in, promising a great future and filling my adolescent mind with dreams. In the end, all I got was disappointment, depression, and debt.
It's hard to even call this place a school. It's more like an internet cafe where instead of games being installed, it has adobe and autodesk. A teacher comes in and goes over some tutorial from digital tutors. Something you could have done yourself. There were some good teachers there, ones who actually opened my eyes to the scam this school is. However, those teachers that actually had a job in the industry and actually did care were cut out with very little reasoning. I'm still friends with one of them. He was my favorite teacher and I was going to continue going to his classes on my own time but he was shocked to find his schedule changed in the new quarter. They replaced him and didn't tell him. In fact I was the one who had to tell him what was going on. He was not happy about this and never ended up teaching there again.
This "school" is run by the worst kind of people with the worst kind of business plan. They prey on dreams and leave you with a horrible expensive reminder of debt that will follow you around like a ball and chain for nearly the rest of your life. I honestly think I would have had better luck being a felon. There are way more forgiving services for criminal records than for student loans.
Reason of review: Scam.
Monetary Loss: $40000.
Preferred solution: AI to go bankrupt and reimburse the students whose lives...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis school was such a blessing in my life; words cannot even describe my love for this school and the people who work here. Sure, this school might be expensive, but it is a private school after all, so what do you expect. They have a very helpful and knowledgeable financial department that can set up affordable payment plans for you. The teachers actually care about your education here and put in so much time, and energy into you, so you have a successful future. I'm from a smaller city up north BC and my life there was hell before I came to this school; I was so shy, uncomfortable and so locked up in my own world that this school really broke my shell and completely changed my outlook and perspective in life - this school helped me become the person I had always dreamed of becoming. I became so open, outgoing and made sooooo many countless number of new friends that I can barely keep track of. I built so many strong, lasting, life time friendships with my new friends and staff members. I graduated over a year ago and I'm still in touch with all my close friends and teachers. The classes are very tough and long, but the amount you learn and get out of the programs and this school is priceless. You get a lot of one on one time with your teachers and your classmates because the classes are very small, which is good because you build better relationships with your peers which makes it easier for you to learn and can help one another out with homework or any other problems you are having, which is something you will barely come across at other schools because the classes are much larger and the teachers barely have time for you. This school and people actually care about you as an individual and will do anything for you. I am so excited for all the newcomers to this school, and I wish them all the best of luck and to really let this school help you find yourself and your creativity like it helped me find myself. If I had a chance to go back, I would always pick this school. Good...
