The only reason for the missing star is the entrance fee. As a kid, the zoo was a standard summer Sunday excursion for my family, and I used to take my kids there too. Since they started charging for admission it has become a special occasion outing and I think I've been maybe 3 times. My son and his wife love going, and have season passes, and visit it all through the year. We joined them on a nice couple of hours walk, about 2 miles, slowly rambling through the zoo, stopping in the bird house, monkey house etc and having lunch in the Tundra grill. The display areas are very nice, much bigger and more humane than 50 years ago. The animals are impressive, and there are lots of helpful, knowledgeable volunteers, even in the -15 weather we visited during. The Tundra Cafe is a burger style eating place, with lots of support for families. Aunt Sally's Farm is a thing remembered only by us oldies, but the play area here is still fun, and a lot less scary for the animals. An additional feature of the grill is the view. You are looking out at the polar bear area and we got quite the floor show, the bears came right up to the windows and looked in at us, and then proceeded to goof around right in front of us. I had the big burger meal, but there are smaller meals as well as vegetarian options. I just missed the park breakfast meal due to getting there just after 11:00 but it looks like a good deal. Food was very good, hot fresh and generous servings. A bit more than a McD's but the floor show seemed worth it. We explored the aquarium exhibit, watching the seals power round the tank, and were fortunate enough to be given another show by the polar bear who jumped in and swam around and over us. I would like to go back, but the admission fee is pretty high for a pensioner, I'll probably wait till early summer to see the changes and maybe a few more animals. 20241024 Was invited to an event at the Polar Bear house. It is a very nice facility, we had a talk and a show in the small auditorium, which functions very like an old planetarium, and of course there is the observation tunnels for the bears and the seals.. I was also on the fringe of Boo at the Zoo which seems like a lot of fun. Again, I haven't attended since my kids outgrew it, but I think it looked like a lot of fun too.

Easy to purchase tickets online and save a few dollars (and skip the cue on a busier day.) Friendly staff and volunteers were all around the park which was lovely. Lots of signage to reorient yourself amidst the enclosures. I went on a very hot day so some.ofnthe animals (Amur Tigers) were a bit shy (hiding to keep cool I imagine.) And I only saw one wolf and one polar bear, which was a bit disappointing, I was hoping to see several knowing how many live at the zoo. That being said, it was a lovely walkabout, with plenty of educational displays surrounding the enclosures. In terms of amenities, it's fairly no-frills. No lockers are available for guests BUT you're welcome to pack your own food and water. There were lots of families with wagons who clearly had the right idea. It could definitely be a lot of walking for young ones or those with mobility challenges, and can certainly be a very hot and sunny day if the weather calls for it. Dress accordingly! Picnic areas were mostly shaded but the rest of the route was full sun so be prepared.

Went for a date night with my wife. Didn't purchase any tickets in advance and was a bit concerned hearing a staff member telling the line to get their tickets ready. Fortunately tickets can be bought upon entry. The lights were pretty to look at, some areas much more well done then others. Some highlights were a very beautifully lit "underwater" area and even a romantic section with some sweet music and mood setting lights. Grabbed some mini donuts which were as good as you would expect them to be. Also got to see some polar bears playing, and a few wolves as well. It was a cold night so be prepared to dress warm enough for the evening as majority of it you will be stuck outside. There was a restaurant indoor section to warm up, as well as a few bonfires set up in some intervals. Taking our time to stop here and there for a few pictures, spent close to 2 hours inside. Not sure if I'd completely say it's worth the entrance fee of about $38 for two, but alot of work was put into it.

Our visit this summer was good, kids had fun and enjoyed different areas of the zoo. They liked the Polar Bear indoor structure. We had trouble finding it since there are no clear signs for it, even though it was in the map. It is located inside the building where the Tundra Grill Restaurant is. There are water refillable stations that spread throughout the zoo. The tram was nice too. The dinosaur exhibit is always a hit. The wildlife rescue was interesting, they had the turtle which the kids found amusing. The polar bears were visible and some wild cats. The seals are always fun to watch. One observation was areas that looks like it should have water for the animals seemed to be dry. Perhaps it is meant to be that way. It might look better if it had water especially when it is very hot and sunny ☀️. The other areas of improvement are the prices of the stuffies for the gift shop. It would sell more if it is reasonable but it is pricey. The visit was indeed a good experience.

Assiniboine zoo is an amazing spot for family outing. You can go for picnic and see a lot of animals at the same time. There are many animals here, including arctic animals, amazing tundra birds, small aquariums, farm animals in summer etc. I have been here a lot of times both in summer as well as winter. In my opinion, during summers the place is very crowded but it does have plus points which are missing in winter. For example butterflies, bug exhibit etc. On the other hand if you go here in winter, there are less people and the volunteers are easily available if you have questions about animals. They have restaurant, shop for souvenirs as well. This place deserves 5 starts, there is always something new going on here. They also have some special days for kids, old people etc. They have separate Churchill area, they also have kids’ play area. You must visit the zoo if you are in Winnipeg. I have tonne of photos, but uploading a few here.

First time visiting - my kids loved it! They really enjoyed going into the Kangaroo exhibit - the staff were very knowledgeable - we learned a lot about kangaroos and other Australian animals. Both the indoor and outdoor dinosaur exhibits were also very entertaining. After spending time at Drumheller, the boys really liked seeing the dinosaurs 'move'. The highlight was definitely the polar bear exhibit. Those bears put on quite a show right above the visitor tunnel. We really enjoyed getting a bite to eat at the tundra grill and watching one polar bear resting and grooming itself. The polar bear indoor playground was a hit especially as it was +30 degrees when we visited. I have never rented strollers before but we did this time and I highly recommend it as it is a long walk with young ones. My kids are 6 and 3 and I really liked how they could just hop on and off the double stroller.
