Wonderful attraction for everyone to enjoy! One of the cheapest things in the park. I really enjoy the sight of a real coal burning steam locomotive running and operating, it is fantastic! Winnipeg is extreamly lucky to have this train and its been a peice of Winnipeg history since 1964. i have been a happy passenger since 1993 when i was 2 years old. It's the only coal burning train in a city park in all of Canada. This train is a fully live and operational Crown Metal steam train. Made in Pen State USA. Only 58 models like it ever made, and we have been exceptionally lucky to have it here serving Winnipeg its whole life. The Train is now 61 years old and still going strong!!! Wish there were more stars to give!!! Be sure to come out and support it this wonderful iconic train it's fun for all ages, dogs are welcome on board too.

Since I was young (late 60s or late 70s), I've always enjoyed the Assiniboine Park Steam Train. I never forget the smell of the fresh coals, always makes me happy. The engineer of the train is so nice. I remember one time in the 70s his father let me ride up front with him and blow the whistle when needed. Laws are tighter now days and that's no longer allowed. Also, thanks to COVID-19 the seats and rails have to be wiped down between each 7 minute ride and they actually had someone helping the engineer by doing that. One thing I gotta say is don't bring a cat or cats on the train. They don't like the whistle. I had brought my 2 kittens for a ride and they seemed to enjoy the ride, but every time that whistle was blown, I got clawed... lol

So much nostalgia here as I remember this train as a kid. Now we are taking our grandson. This train provides a unique experience as you circle a wooded area in the park. There is a pretty good chance you will see some deer from the train. The only downside is that the wait you may experience before it begins. It would be nice if the rides occurred more frequently. Depending on the time and season the mosquitoes can be quite irritating.

This ride is especially great for kids. We took our four year old granddaughter and she ate it up. The train is kept in tip top shape painted in bright colours and the experience provided by the lone operator is made very authentic in feel. Ticket sales, collection, and ride are very original feeling: the coal fired steam engine, steam whistle, clickity clack of the steel wheels on rails. You should try it at least once. $3.25 per passenger gets you a 10-minute circuit ride over a pond and through the...
