Grant’s Old Mill is a Manitoba historic site located on 2777 Portage Avenue in the St James area of Winnipeg.
This was originally a grain mill that was operated at this site on Sturgeon Creek in what is now the St. James area of Winnipeg, between 1829 and about 1832, by Metis leader Cuthbert James Grant. The first water mill in Western Canada, a working recreation of the mill building was erected at the site in 1974 as part of Winnipeg’s centennial celebrations. Its one-foot thick logs came from Gypsumville and its stones from quarries at Garson.

Great place for photography year round or just get out for some exercise. Read moreI've only been to Grant's Old Mill a couple of times. It's oddly located in Sturgeon Creek Park in the section near the Grace Hospital. There are volunteer staff onsite and there are plaques and pieces of old-school rural equipment on display. There is a downstairs section where you can see metal mill-type machinery.
