For me ikea is not just a shopping stop but an entire experience. My partner had never been so it was interesting to gauge his reaction to my attempt at explaining what this entails.
There is a HUGE parking lot so parking is likely never going to be an issue. Just remember where exactly you parked.
You enter, go up the stairs. If you want a shopping cart you need to bring one up the elevator near the stairs. They have shopping bags along the way but if you need a cart you’ll find yourself having to return to the beginning.
The beginning of the store is specialty built and designed various rooms of a house that you can explore absolutely everything in AND purchase just about everything you see. Open the fridge, cabinets, check the closets- all of it. IKEA is designed to show you multiple ways to organize, design and utilize all the space available to you in ways you may not have thought of yourself in AFFORDABLE ways. That said- the quality does reflect the price. Especially where furniture is concerned.
I love seeing all the displays and exploring. It’s like an adult where’s Waldo except instead of finding Waldo you find things you didn’t know you wanted or needed. Also of note- the prices are so affordable you fool yourself into thinking “I’ll just buy this and then it’s no big deal if I don’t use it cause it’s only 65 cents!” Then- you hit the cashier and boom. 700$ later.
All jokes aside, it’s a great alternative to furniture stores and the ideas you can get from the displays are worth it.
Throughout the store you’ll see items you can grab and bring with you to check out. Otherwise you wait until you’re done the displays and head to the marketplace and warehouse downstairs. Yes, another elevator ride with cart is required. Oh and you’ll know you’ve reached the end when you pass the children’s section and see the giant cafeteria where you can park your cart, go grab a drink or some Swedish meatballs before opening your wallet for the final event.
They have little papers with those golf pencils and they recommend you write down the numbers to find what you’re looking for in the warehouse (which is nicely laid out step by step by the way so there’s no excuses). I personally just take photos of the items tag with all the details.
Also when you’re in the warehouse please make sure you look on the shelf to see if you require more than one box to complete your purchase or you may end up with half a bookcase or bed frame unknowingly. I’d hope the cashiers would alert you by that point but I’ve never made this mistake so I can’t say for sure.
There’s a lovely loading zone at the front for your convenience. Get your partner to START THE CAR and get loaded up, then go organize your home!
I truly love ikea. Shoddy quality (at...
Read moreWas super disappointed coming here. Every time I've come here, there has been little to no help, which with the pandemic is completely understandable. However, I am 8 months pregnant, from out of the city, and online shopping is atrocious. If they item is low in stock, they won't even allow click and collect. When they do, they charge you a fee for it. I have gone several times during my pregnancy, by myself, and no one helped me. I had to actually go around and find someone to help me, which meant I walked around to the person then walked them back to the item, only to have them load it and walk away from me. So I pushed a heavy loaded cart of furniture by myself throughout the remainder of the story.
So my husband, who is my caregiver, brought me to help me get furniture, as I wanted to get a few dressers and a changer, and the security guard stopped us from even standing in line with the acceptable distance required. There were other families, which I assume were also caregivers in a way, but he had a sudden problem with us. He caused such a ruckus, and just kept telling us we couldn't even stand in line. He was telling us about how it was up to the IKEA staff, but he wouldn't even let us talk to a staff member to ask. My husband got upset as he stated I am clearly pregnant and cannot lift the furniture and push the on my own. The security guard, who had no mask as he stood very close to us, was telling us we couldn't go together and that there were plenty of people inside who would help me. He then proceeded to tell me that I should just sit in the car and video call, or click and collect and just put up with the fee. My husband was getting agitated, and we had to walk away.
Now we understand and fully acknowledge the current Covid rules. However, I am clearly expecting and need a caregiver. Earlier the same day, we bumped into Covid compliance officers, and even they were very gracious when they realized I was expecting. They themselves told me that I was an exception, and that we could continue on. We were never bothered going into any other establishment during the day as we still maintained our distance from everyone.
The security guard then sauntered off saying "oh she understands" when I convinced my husband Ikea wasn't worth it. That was the most atrocious experience, and we weren't even inside. The times I did go inside, no one even bothered to ask if I...
Read moreThis in not Swedish any more. Most of the food goods are gone ,including the cinnamon buns ,snowballs ,rum confections etc. They even got rid of the mustard . The goods sold are all made elsewhere --- no Sverige anywhere . The staff aren't attentive and could care less & if they give any help it is begrudgingly done. We always go there --- no more. Sorry you are not Swedish anymore .
Update Dec/2023 .We went to Ikea again and this time there were cinnamon buns and they are still great . We bought a fair amount of items ,some made in the UK ,most things were made in other countries but the prices were good. Most of the shelves with food goods were empty --- no mustard ,no rum desserts ,etc. , but we did find a few things. We decided to have lunch there and while okay we were dissatisfied. The person serving was not very pleasant ,the portions were tiny ,okay for me but my husband was not satisfied .My two large problems were that I had fish & chips ,and found one hair ,then another and gosh another. I couldn't eat anymore --- yuck . I know it is only a hair and one I can handle ,two is getting to be not so fun and 3 is incredibly off-putting ,and even though the few bites I had weren't too bad I couldn't eat anymore. There was also the issue of it being fish & chips with GRAVY and apparently the gravy pot was empty , if there was a tsp on the fries I am being generous . When we went to the till after spending too much [3 x] the lady there was so nice. I wish more employees were so sweet .She was helpful ,courteous and just such a nice person that it made the shopping better. I don't know her name but I sure hope this lady is there next time around .All in all ,except for the food it was better than last time .I just wish they had more Sverige goods ,more Tomte , more Data horses [wooden],more Christmas items that I grew up with and more food goods like the mustard, more baked items & cheeses I had when young . I was born in Sweden so I know Swedish Christmas Eves and wish this was more Swedish . But, as I said ,better than before . There is an IKEA in Richmond [B.C ] and last time we were there is was AWESOME. It actually carried so many items that were truly Swedish that it was incredible --- I just wish this Winnipeg one was as good. Oh ,well, better than...
