Seven Mile Beach (SMB) is a long crescent of coral-sand beach on the western end of Grand Cayman island. Seven Mile Beach is known for its beauty, recently receiving the honor of "The Caribbean's Best Beach" from Caribbean Travel and Life Magazine. It is public property (as are all beaches in the Cayman Islands) and one is able to walk the full length of the beach, regardless of where you are staying. The Seven Mile Beach is the most popular and most developed area of Grand Cayman. It is home to the majority of the island's luxury resorts and hotels. Despite the name, a generous measurement puts the actual length at just a bit over 6.3 miles (10.1 km) long. A realistic length for the uninterrupted sandy beach is about 6 miles. The beach falls victim to annual erosion, which has reduced its size in some areas, and may have reduced its length at the ends. Like the rest of Grand Cayman, the development around the Seven Mile Beach was severely damaged in Hurricane Ivan in September 2004 but many condominiums & hotels are still running at full capacity.
Restaurants open to the public can be found at most of the resorts, which includes several public beach bars. Some small reefs are located just off shore which offer good snorkelling, most notably by the Marriott hotel (an artificial reef), Government House (the Governor's residence), and just north of Seven Mile Public beach.
Directly to the south of Seven Mile Beach is George Town, the capital city of the Cayman Islands, while to the north is the district of West Bay, which features a turtle farm and the limestone...
Read moreWe stopped in Grand Cayman as part of our cruise. Upon getting off the cruise ship we jumped on the 7 mile beach bus (it cost us from memory roughly $8 per person each way) the journey takes about 10 minutes. We went to the Calico Jacks part of the beach, just absolutely stunning, we paid for 2 sunbeds with shade (I think it was $25). We were on the beach by about 11am so it was quiet and just amazing. Everything you expect of a beach, soft white sand, warm turquoise waters, sunshine and a balmy breeze. We managed to pick up patchy Wifi from the bar, the waitress will also come along the beach to ask if you would like drinks brought to you, we had a bucket of 5 beers in ice, just a good day all round some water and coffee and the prices were reasonable ($25 for the bucket) and you can mix different types of local brewed bier in a single bucket offer. We rented also a paddle for 2 hours (quite fair $40) as the water is so calm and such an opportunity can not be missed. Upon our return to the bus right on the alley through Calico Jacks towards the beach you can find 3 operational showers where you can clean and also 2 cabins to change which was quite comfy. Great place to spend a day...
Read moreOn Wednesday, June 12, 2019, my family and I visited the 7 miles beach. We were cruising of the Carnival Horizon ship. We rented a chair so that we can lay down our 21 months old baby. A tall dark skin gentleman with braided hair and pinytail rent us a chair under the shelter. He was nice. About 20 minutes later, another dark skin, skinny man wearing a Blue Sea Rentals shirt came to the shelter and slightly kicked the chair our baby was sleeping and made the other guy change the chair because he gave us the chair from the rack. We had to switched our sleeping 21 months old baby chairs for no reason. The baby was the only one laying in the beach chair. Blue Sea Rentals provided horrible service by making us switched chairs and moving a sleeping baby. The guy wearing the Blue Sea Rentals even started an argument about the money we paid for the rental. Someone like this should not be providing services to guests and tourists. The picture of the man wearing the Blue Sea Rentals providing horrible services...
